  1. so just rip it out and get rid like you would if it were any other stump basically. There's another nearby but nothing growing out of that one
  2. What is this at the bottom of some Ash trees? Is it just part of the root system that's grown above ground? I'm assuming its solid wood in there. Any value or use for it? Thanks Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  3. Gators are serious money and the ones I've driven seem gutless. Nice to be in a cab when it rains though. I prefer a quad and trailer for VFM
  4. Is the saw bench really likely to spin if it gets jammed? The old one we have never gets put on the tractor aside from to move it and it's never budged once when connected only by the PTO shaft. Although it is a very heavy beast.
  5. Mendiplogs likes big butts
  6. Wet but a bit warm for this time of year
  7. Got off quite lightly, expected a lot more trees to be down on our land than there is. This Ash tree went the only way it could of gone without doing damage to something else or landing on the road. The weather beat me to felling it Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  8. How much do these cost? I'm guessing a lot more than bags Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  9. I had mine outside all summer with a tarp thrown over just the top when there was wet weather due. Then bring inside for the winter. Had to leave a few outside under a tarp at the start of winter as not enough room inside but they didn't go mouldy as the wood was nice and dry before it was covered over! 10. Anyone on here grow Christmas trees? Is there a lot of maintenance involved or is it just a case of plant them and leave them to it? Only thinking small scale, maybe a couple hundred trees rather than thousands. Trying to weigh it all up. Got a couple of spare lumps of land we could use. Just looking for some first hand experience and advice if possible as I gather now is the time of year to be planting them. Cheers Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  11. I'd tell him to get knotted. Nearly a month has passed, you didn't give a warranty so it's his problem. As a non business seller I rarely sell anything on eBay but when I do I ask for cash on collection, cleared cheque or bank transfer. No Paypal. Stops eBay refunding without your say so.
  12. Cut a couple of trailer loads this weekend for the mother in law to make wreaths. Never made a wreath myself, don't think I'd have the patience for it
  13. Knocking 2 logs together to hear what it sounds like is what I do. Given up with moisture meters. Never sure on their accuracy and use it that infrequently that the batteries always gone flat when I come to use it
  14. Looks like a really nice versatile machine. Thanks for sharing
  15. Doesn't seem like it! She's getting a bulk bag with just Oak in this time Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  16. Just had a call from one of my customers I delivered to last weekend. The classic "logs are too dry" so can I bring another load of slower burning wood she can mix in with it Bet this ice this morning will get the phones ringing for everyone on here
  17. And yes the large Ash tree behind is knackered and coming down soon if it doesn't fall down first!
  18. Would anyone know what the value of old timber beams are? We took a few in the attached photo off an old barn recently. I would imagine they would be used more for decorative false trusses/beams rather than anything structural? Not sure of the value. Thanks.
  19. Received mine the other day. Seems well made. Got Tim to put a bulk head on it and a swivel hitch too.
  20. I bought a few crates of logged and split kiln dried Ash and Beech recently to sell on. Worked out around £65 per cubic metre. Doesn't sound too bad going off some of the roundwood prices being quoted in here
  21. All my logs for this winter were cut at just under 10" long months ago so no option to go any shorter now unless they want them unseasoned.
  22. I sell a bit and not had any complaints, dries quickly Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  23. Very good. I've got a sheet of mesh reinforcement lying around so now I have a job for it
  24. I've just ordered one of the mini timber trailers from them
  25. Is there no woodland on the farm? If there is you could fell your own trees to get you started and give you a feel for what the market is like near you. Minimal overheads required as presumably you already have tractors, trailers, quad etc. on the farm to help extract the wood. Fuel for machinery and your own time is all you need. Hard work though but you're doing the farm a service at the same time as there's always windblown tree's, dead or dying trees and areas of woodland that could do with a bit of thinning and tidying up.
