  1. I've got a log splitter that runs off the tractor hydraulics and I'm wondering if I'd be able to have a pump running off the PTO that I could connect the splitters hydraulic hoses to so I could use an old Ford 4000 we've got to power it instead. But then still be able to disconnect it from the pump when I want to use it on other tractors that do have hydraulic spools. Basically want the option to run off PTO or hydraulics depending which tractor I'm using... and the PTO pump etc. wouldn't need to be attached to the splitter, it could be stand alone. What would I need? Is it all plug and play type parts I can buy and plug together myself or would I need someone to fabricate something for me? Not got a clue! Thanks
  2. Would you be able to send me a PM with details for future reference? Cheers.
  3. Wish I could get some more bags of kindling like that, managed to get a pallet load of it for £1.57 a bag including delivery last year! On to some that aren't as well packed now and the bags rip really easy. Imported from somewhere.
  4. Looks like Bag Supplies are out of stock looking at their website. I'm sure they are more expensive than MCA Kingstone too
  5. Most of my customers get a bucket or the like to collect up the bits of bark and shards of wood to use as kindling. Not that there is that much anyway but they might as well make use of it rather than throw it in the bin.
  6. Never dealt with these places personally but there's Graythwaite Sawmill Graythwaite - Sawmill products And there's T Knipe at Allithwaite but they don't have a website. Both mills are in Cumbria.
  7. Yeah it tilts, it's pretty quick really. Tried making a frame with nails to hang the bags off and it was far too slow. This is much better Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  8. I was going to go but got another field down for baling on Sunday so that's put an end to that. Missed the one they did at Witherslack last year too!
  9. Does anything you've already milled just before the warm weather comes not dry too quick and crack?
  10. Got a fabricator to make this up for me
  11. Jon likes big butts!
  12. What do the sawmillers do in countries that have a climate like this for much longer periods of time?
  13. If it's local I take tractor and trailer, unhitch and lift the bag off with pallet forks. If I go in the Land Rover and trailer on my own I throw a few logs out till it's light enough to pull the bag over and tip out the back of the trailer. Tractor deliveries are best cos I can lift the bags over fences etc. straight to the log store
  14. It's ridiculous how fast sycamore seasons. Felled a few at Xmas and now it's so light already that it almost feels like balsa
  15. Never seen those bulk bags before either with mesh all round. Look good. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  16. What do you do with your bags in winter? Cover them over? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  17. These are good for saving your back, the frame takes the weight of the saw and you get all your logs to the same length too Portek Limited I got a cheaper copy off eBay and it seems to work just as well as the Portek one, if a little fiddly to assemble. And a Helko log pick to lift the lengths on to the saw horse. Helko Log Pick 80cm/38cm | F R Jones and Son
  18. I work alone 80% of the time
  19. True, it would soon pay for itself in extra productivity. I'll have to get them priced up and see what the damage is!
  20. No worries, I'll have to give them a ring. I was thinking it would be good if I had them long enough to be able to put the splitter to the front and side of the tractor then vented bag on the loader to throw the split logs straight in to. But it might get expensive having them that long
  21. Slightly old thread but is anyone able to point me in the right direction for where I could get some of these complete with quick release couplings already fitted? Be handy to have my splitter separate from the tractor sometimes.
  22. I like it, very neat joinery work too Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  23. Went in to my local Aldi yesterday to see if they had any but there were none. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
