Husqvarna used to make chaps that zipped up the back ( years ago ) . Why not get a good quality pair of front protection only strides and be done with it ? Husky , Phanner , etc etc

A puncture in the exhaust would only benefit the performance I would say . Smoke from underneath could be simply the exhaust gasket damaged ( if there is one ) or the exhaust loose . -

We used to do that when we had a 7.5 tonner . Getting it plated every 10 weeks killed it really ....
