  1. Mmmm . I have done that without realizing what was happening . . neat innit ?
  2. Yep . It is harder to slow down once spinning and equally harder to spin up from stand still . Best analogy I can think of is a brush cutter . 2 strings of line spins up fast , come off the gas and it stops quick . Same brush cutter with heavier metal blade takes longer to spin up to full revs and if you then come off the gas it keeps spinning much longer than the 2 line head due to the greater inertia of the metal blade .
  3. Heavy fly wheel is slower pick up but more torque . Light fly wheel is faster pickup but less torque because less inertia in the fly wheel .
  4. Yes I have experienced the differing species . As you say some times you need to give it a shove to get the helix to bite in soft wood but once in it need to pull itself in to avoid the boring effect .
  5. One thing that I wonder about is do you let the cone pull itself in using the helix or do you force it down with the digger arm ? I have a cone splitter and when you push the log on you can let go and it pulls itself on and splits . If you try and force it it will sometimes bore a hole . If you see what I mean.......

  8. There was one however in a garden in Funtington West Sussex .. Succumbed to HF I think . Dead standing . Still had to cut from both sides with the 50" bar .
  9. True . I sold my 3120 on a 50" canon bar as it got used once in a blue moon .

  11. Beautiful specimen Steve . I bet it has seen some changes in its time .
  12. Spud is your man . He will be along with some suggestions I am sure . Failing that you can send it to him and he will sort it .
  13. Its the American way for sure , especially in soft wood .
  14. Its turning into an auction Jon . Some dosh involved now mate
  15. I would go for a 390 over a 576 . They weigh almost the dsame but the 390 makes more power . But if it was between the 390 and the 395 it would be 395 all day long .
  16. Been using it since 2003 when I bought " west Coast " 385 from Canada . Went to get a new chain from my dealer back then and he did not know what I was talking about . Been getting it from the U.S. until recently .
  17. Check the the coil is the right gap to the fly wheel and also that the fly wheel key has not sheared and the fly wheel as not slipped round advancing the timing a tad .
  18. Metsa my friend . You are wonderful mate !
