  1. I just cut in between the nails and scoop them out with the ash later .
  2. There is a large walnut near me ( several actually that border the old Lavant/Midurst railway line ) . This tree is a biggun and has self seeded , with the help of the rooks , several young trees about 8 foot in height . All these youg trees have very blackened and shriveled leaves . I don't know if its early frost or recent drought but they don't look happy . The biggun however seems fine .
  3. Long standing joke goes back several years . People pick it up and run with it .....
  4. Field Maple was used in furniture making and some musical instruments in the past but it is very slow growing and this factor made it loos its popularity as a commercial wood .
  5. I also do mine every three to four sharpens but my gauge is constant and not worn down . Its not the pennies , its the increasing inaccuracy that will accumulate till you buy a new one .
  6. You should not leave the gauge on and file down to it ! Put the gauge on feel how much proud the raker is . Take the gauge off give it a few strokes put the gauge back on and check . After a short time you can usually know how many strokes to give it till its flush with the gauge . I am 67 years old and never worn out a raker depth gauge ?
  7. Cause can be any number of things . Bad mix is one ( old fuel or wrong ratio of oil to petrol ) An air leak is another making it run lean and hot causing damage to the piston . Wrongly adjusted carb is another . Not saying it is low comp , just a suggestion . take the muffler off and have a look at the piston through the exhaust port .
  8. You say " dust " . I don't mill but have always associated " dust " with a blunt chain .
  9. Don't know what , or indeed if there are any regs . Combustion needs 3 components . Fuel , Oxygen and heat . Keep the heat/ ignition out of it and the 02 and fuel should be safe .
  10. As I understand it , the reasoning is , with long bars buried the full length the fewer cutters you have the longer the tunnel in the kirf is . This allows the chip to be carried away and not jam up . With more cutters there is more chip and less room to discharge it . i don't do milling but this theory certainly stands up when felling with full skip or semi skip ( as opposed to hyper ) skip chains on long bars .
  11. OK then . This leaves the possibility of damage to the piston and bore but unlikely as you say you have run it on the correct mix . If the screws have been " twiddled " the first thing to do is put them back to the standard factory settings . If this brings no joy you need to take/send it to someone who knows what they are doing . I can recommend Spud on here . @spudulike
  12. Elvis working down the chippie ?
  13. 20% is good enough for me . Anything less and I would want to pay less !
  14. She is not that type of dog . Have had other that would but she is everybodys friend .
  15. My spaniel has been chasing squirrels in the woods today . She can't work out were they go . ( up the tree ) . This morning at about 05:00 we came across a small fox cub in the barley . He must have been no more the 8" long nose to tail . The dog went after him but not aggressively ( she wants everything to play with her ) . He went into cover and turned to face her . The cub made these sort of grunting noises at her . I called her away and she came . Later this afternoon we saw the vixen in the same place . Surprised as it was about 15:00 in afternoon . Sorry no pics .
  16. Would not have it said ! ?
