I think the steel insert is stronger than the original ally thread . Of course the new steel thread is effectively screwed into the parent aluminum so .....

I turned up a headed insert and bored out the cylinder head and shrunk the insert in . Worked fantastyic but felt a bit silly when someone showed me the spark pug specific helicoil !

If you don't mind running the risk of getting cancer and you don't mind running used engine oil full of swarf particles through your saw then go for it .......

Its a bit of an ugly bugger to start with sop you are up against it from the off . You have thinned it rather than reduce but you have done a good job with what you have to work with . Looking at the growth from the the thicker limbs I would say its been pollarded before .

In my experience jo public will go where he wants if it suits him/her. All you can do is sign it tape it barrier it and get it down as quick as you can .
