  1. Have you watched that guy's other videos....? Kind of makes your own life seem like some kind of miserable failure... When I die I and come back I think I want to be American, they seem to do all the fun stuff and have all the best places to do it!!!!
  2. Awesome, love the camera taped to a golf club!
  3. I use that horrible nylon 3 strand type stuff... I heard they use bare handed throwlining as a method of extracting information at 'Gitmo....
  4. Gloves Pete! They do have their uses you know! I always set one off without, then don't forget to put them on for the rest of the week...
  5. Like Will have a good look round there later...
  6. I've wondered the same thing, I isolate my anchor and throwline to get up ddrt [should I not be..?!] ... I use the 'swing a cat' method.... I have been considering using a low weight throw bag and one of those 'powerful' handheld catapults to get a line up, like a 'Black Widow' type... But that's down to expense really... A Big Shot is only as powerful as you pull it...
  7. Nice! 2 things: 1. Disappointed it didn't break into 'I'll take your brain to another dimension. STOP! Pay close attention'. and 2, I thought you were going to get a butt in your face at about 1 minute, thought the groundie could have let it run quicker...! [Although probably not as close in reality as it looks through a helmet cam] Good stuff... STOP! Pay close attention....
  8. Aah, the good old, 'burnout, Hoover, reboot' technique, works almost every time, usually...
  9. Some insurers certainly do require evidence that they're gambling on people who know what they're doing. Others take a bigger gamble on more people to balance the risk.... Don't forget that insurance isn't there to reimburse a little old lady when a professional makes a mistake. And those nice people we deal with are just brokers, it's the underwriters who call the shots, and nothing a broker says will really stand up in the face of the underwriters saying otherwise... It's primarily statistical gambling for the purpose of making money. They only justify it by offering pay outs in certain circumstances. I would be very surprised if your insurer, with photocopies of your tickets, didn't try just as hard to avoid paying out as one who took your money without the flimsy premise of 'only insuring qualified professionals'. I doubt they care very much, money's money, they just want to accumulate and hold onto as much of it as they can. Who knows, perhaps they would try even harder, they may have less money in their pot!
  10. Ok. Start / Windows menu > Control panel > Sound > You should then have a box with the different devices. Pick the one which looks most like 'built in speakers', click configure and make sure that's the active device. Other than that, sorry, I got nothin'!
  11. Hmm, not sure I can help you on that... hold fire, there's one the other end of the office, let me check if it's similar to XP in this respect...
  12. You could contact an existing training provider like these guys - Achieve Ability Plus ? Environmental and Land Based Vocational Training courses - [who I did my courses with years ago and who I'll do some more with when I get the time] and see what they say.
  13. Which operating system...?
  14. Perhaps AT could be a conduit for forming local working groups [a bit more structured than rec climbs] where experienced users can get together with guys looking for a bit of supported experience with new kit. It could work like this. AT could open a 'Regions' section of the forum, where requests for support could be posted or if you have been using some new kit and want to share your experiences you could make it known. Small groups could then get together locally and pool resources, perhaps make a few vids and post them all into a new thread on here. Maybe even manufacturer tech reps could take part as well, we could travel from other areas to join in sessions where the manufacturer is present. Sound like a good idea...?
  15. The exact same question I asked . I could only take his word for it [and hope nothing goes wrong to have to test it out!]
  16. May be a long shot but you could contact the builder [or developer or architect] - ask for the MD. If you come across friendly enough he might help you out with something reference the original reports. Explain to him that you've been called in to look at the trees and wonder if you're getting fed a line by a busy-body resident looking for something free. The trees look OK but could you get a copy of the original ground surveys & reports from the project. If he offers them, great, you can see what they found where and whether or not it is a problem. The reports may be flawed [sampling area could be just under the buildings themselves and genuinely clear, not uncommon] but it would explain how they got through. Things were already strict 5 years ago. If not, then he's either being an awkward git, has something to hide - although if this is the case LABC [or private BC surveyor who handled the project] have a lot to answer for - or somehow, again, building control need to own up to cocking up here as well, nothing was done and he genuinely doesn't have reports. That however is unlikely. To qualify, I work for a contractor and if I was in this builder/developer's position and someone offered me an opportunity to clear myself I'd bend over backwards to help.
  17. Fine if he has access to these things... On the basis that it's a voluntary job I imagine he'll want to use kit he already has in his box...
  18. And there was one before that which no-one replied to! http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/climbers-talk/35436-new-equipment-training.html And one in between... http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/climbers-talk/35784-what-do-you-do.html COT needs to subscribe to his threads so he can find them again...!
  19. Straight from the HSE leaflet... The important MUST throws chainsaw use into PUWER. What that basically says is that training only becomes a requirement under PUWER and PUWER only applies: So yes, it's very murky, but unless you are an employer and are providing your staff with equipment which falls within PUWER, then you can quite legitimately operate with nothing more than PPE & a healthy obsession with not dying. That's how I see it anyway [and I fill much of my work time with interpreting HSE guidelines into things which can be useful...] And ref insurance, I queried this when I was getting quotes in. You can be insured for tree surgery without having tickets [not proof of having them, actually having completed any courses], I know because I specifically asked. And if some insurers offer that facility it can't be illegal can it? Accepted, it's better to insure trained people, you're less likely to have to pay out in theory, but it's not a legal requirement.
  20. I'd go with your original suggestion. DdRT, pulley at the top, rig him up with just a pulley or HC on his harness to fairlead the rope, then take the tail down to a decent base anchor with a hitch & pulley. Couple of guys pulling, job done. If he's a tub then add in another pulley to get it to 3:1. Have a climber go up next to him [i guess SRT to enable him to keep pace] with radio contact to the ground crew who can then set him up with work positioning once he's up there and make sure all his rig stays put. Could put a second line round a second anchor as well so that if the hauling crew's anchor or hitch fails he still has a safety line, this could be controlled by the climber alongside him if he's not confident about rapelling himself. Sounds like great fun!
  21. Likewise...
  22. Likewise.... mine have stood up well... to everything apart from my wife putting hot ashes in one.... the sitting room rug fared pretty badly in that event as well
  23. Got snow on it now people.... :thumbup1: The Best of Both Worlds: Red Bull Supernatural | Alli Sports
  24. First attempt taking down on spikes..? Did you enjoy it? I got 'pinged off' the other week which is something I've been terrified of, and I mean TERRIFIED... but it was actually fine....!
  25. +1
