  1. Powerful stuff
  2. 80% of my chainsaw use is on my own, it's only the odd bit of climbing that I always have someone with me..... I tried persuading my wife to help me cutting wood but she lost interest very quickly... before we even got out the door! If you work safely and use the proper equipment there's no reason why you shouldn't work on your own. I think a basic error easily made too often is not working in a clear area. Taking a minute to make sure there's nothing to trip over when logging or that you have an escape route if you're felling are essential but easily overlooked.
  3. Absolutely spot on Dean, this is exactly what I tell new construction clients. Then I let them go meet an existing customer or two who say the same thing, that we're not the cheapest but we are the best, and that's why they will only use us, and we can add another customer to the list who will stay with us. Jobs won on the cheapest price are all one-off's, because the next time that customer wants something doing, they'll be asking around for the cheapest price again, because it's how they always do it. If your overheads are low or you can exist on such low margins then fair enough, I'm not competing with you. I want to do a job I'm proud of to the best of my abilities and be rewarded handsomely for doing it, and I don't want to spend my life finding new customers, it's far easier to build long term relationships with exsiting customers than constanly winning new ones....
  4. There are no qualifications required to be an MP or PM, it's an elected post, ANY one of us could do it Tony if we were that way inclined. As it goes, the people least qualified to run a country are career politicians as they have little or no experience of life at the sharp end, the MD of any SME would be more 'qualified' than 99% of politicians. But the country isn't really run by politicians, it's run by career civil servants. However, the case remains the same, they aren't really qualified to run the country either, many couldn't run a bath...
  5. Quite right! It's got worse that Husky V Stihl...!
  6. I have a Seiko which my sister got for me as a wedding present. Irritatingly I cracked the glass without realising then dunked it in the bath and it's not working properly at the moment... need to get it to a jeweller to see if it can be saved. Hope it can, great watch!
  7. I did report that one because it was being obviously passed off as a fake, it did breach eBay listing rules...
  8. Not sure I see why British police officers who have served 5 years deserved a fecking medal anyway.... I feel I deserve one more for funding their salaries, pensions, overtime and flexi-time while they cruise around in their panda cars or hang out at Spar.... But that's just my skewed perspective as a married taxpaying home owning parent working full time in the private sector.... so what do I know...?
  9. I have to agree. I fail to see how it is even good for business, since I'm sure the benefit of an 'alleged' open access export market for us is offset by everything they take with the other hand, not to mention the fact that emerging markets which hoover up UK made luxury goods aren't even in the EU, so why would we need the EU who can't afford to buy much of what we produce anyway..? HOWEVER, really there is only one way to make a difference and that's NOT lamenting it over a pint or ranting on here. It's lobbying your MP hard. I write to my MP a lot [my rants to her are much the same as they are on here!] and she does respond. But I sense that those who share my opinion don't bother writing to her, so I'm considered a minority. That has to change before anything else can.
  10. Well OBVIOUSLY I was reviewing said product....
  11. Absolutely priceless... god bless men everywhere... Amazon.co.uk: Customer Reviews: Veet for Men Hair Removal Gel Creme 200 ml
  12. I think that in the UK exchanges generally tend to be set up by schools and colleges with their opposite number in towns they are twinned with. For instance I went to Ludlow College and went on exchange to La Ferte Mace in Normandie which is twinned with Ludlow and hence close links are maintained. A good place to start may be to find out if any towns near you are twinned with any English towns and approach the twinning association to see if they can help you out. Good luck. I'm sure it's not nearly as dodgy as it sounds!
  13. Jesus, that's more than a real one isn't it?!?!
  14. I've been at the dentist a lot lately, want to get all my teeth back into shape before it's too late... my problem is needles.... however, I get the bubble gum flavoured anaesthetic gel before the needle and the whole experience is painless. I had a couple of broken teeth / fillings / abcesses done the other day, makes such a difference to life in general once done. I did get an infection where I had a tooth removed last year, that was even more painful than toothache, now I take antibiotics as a matter of course for a few days after having a tooth out and I've had no problems. I smashed a front tooth off years ago and had a root canal, post & crown. Annoyingly I lost that so after 5 years I'm finally getting a bridge made, but I have to have the whole root out at the front first. I used to dislike the dentist but having changed to a new one it's a completely different story. I say what I want to happen, she listens, even when I lie there demanding she explain exactly what she's going to do, what order it'll be in and to show me the tools she's using and how they work before she starts. I find that way I can keep things in perspective while she's drilling away in my head, it removes much of the fear of the unknown and lack of control which I think is the biggest issue, you're incredibly vulnerable while having dental treatment, it goes against our fight/flight instincts.
  15. I reckon the NT is so big that getting sense out of anyone to get permission is a non-starter...! Gatley would be nice though....!
  16. Likewise, we've got some lovely oaks on our land but a bit further out from Shrewsbury... probably getting on for 50 miles in reality... Having said that, much closer to Warley...
  17. Llangollen, it's in Wales man!
  18. I could go for this if it becomes a rec climb.... was there last weekend with the kids for a walk... I am formulating a plan....
  19. Oh now those I like....
  20. Generally 8.30 to 5.30 in day job, but some days can be 5am starts & 10pm finishes depending on where we're working, then 8 till 11 ish in the evenings on 'other jobs' [not counting 3 hours housework & sorting kids while wife's at work!], one full day every other weekend, sometimes more... so, er, usually about 65 hours a week. But that's mostly stuck in front of a PC. And I'm still f*in broke....
  21. A company employing anyone under 18 [even on a workie basis] should be able to get you insured in the same way as anyone else on their existing policy. We have a written specific YPP running alongside our main H&S policy which covers what 13 [i think] to 17 year olds can and can't do, working hours etc. and so long as we comply with this, anyone working for us under 18 is covered as an employee in the same way everyone else is. If the placement has been arranged through a school or college they will already have checked the employers EL. If it's an informal arrangement with someone you know then you're best off getting a parent to request a copy of their policy schedule and if concerned, phone the insurer. That said, if they are a company they should have PL anyway which, if you're not 'working for them' per se, I presume you would be covered by anyway...
  22. That's the word I was looking for!!
  23. I know..... I have a bit of a thing for them.... don't run it as an every day car but it gets a lot of use... but you're right, seriously thirsty.... I was using it every day a while ago and I put 400 quid in it in 3 days.... My first V8 was a 1993 Range Rover, then I had a 1959 Series 2 with a 3.5, and now a 3.9 Disco.... that bloody noise.... I can't help it.... to hell with the cost!
  24. Spud will tell you the definitive, but what about a replacement thread insert...? Tappex - Insert technology for plastics, composites and metal alloys
  25. oooohh.... Replaces the dissy on V8's.... Main Page - Autosport Labs or MegaSquirt - Electronic Fuel Injection Computer by Bowling and Grippo ©2010 [which is more specific to why I like it...] Makes them much better in water...
