  1. Update: got the oversize stud from Mr Solutions on Friday, along with some spare bar nuts and a new helmet. It went on a treat and my old 039 lives again, all for £2.35 and P&P. Many thanks to all for their input and especially Spud for pointing me in the right direction.
  2. By the magic of PM (thanks Spud) I have been able to order the stud from a dealer who will. I'll keep you posted as to how successful it is.
  3. Stuart Cutter is based locally and has cut hairy trees for me. I'm based near Glyn Ceiriog, so not far. Home - Cuttertree Arb & Timber Contractors
  4. Local dealer denies that such a stud exists, will try FR Jones. Number doesn't come up on the computer for FR Jones either. May have to try epoxy resin fix they suggest.
  5. Absolutely outstanding! My expectations of a helpful response have been vindicated and multiplied by 10. Do those oversize studs just self tap? Thank you everyone.
  6. I've been lurking here for a long time, finally I'm hoping for some advice. My aged but reliable 039 has got a problem, and I'd be grateful to hear what to do with it. After ringing up a dead oak, I noticed one of the bar nuts was missing. Assuming I had not tightened it up enough, I borrowed one from another saw and found that the stud it goes on to is loose. Then I realised plastic thread in the body of the saw has stripped completely. The saw has done a fair bit of work over the years, but just on larger diameters. I cut maximum 15 ton a year for firewood, and do a bit of hedgelaying, so I'm not a heavy user. Apart from replacing the whole body, is there a safe way of repairing this or should I sell it for spares and get another saw?
