  1. For anyone interested, photo i took this morning of my Snake Anchor set up as a lowerable base anchor, soft locked figure 8 backed up with a floating Schwabisch which can be unclipped and taken with the rescuer if necessary so that they can guide a casualty to the ground..... Screw gate 'biners make it easier for 'non-climbers' to get the floating hitch off.... If I was doing something particularly dicey on ddrt I'd set this up to give me lowerable floating top anchor for ground rescue as well....
  2. And these... Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  3. Couple more.... Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  4. Was a nice day today, bloody cold but nice nonetheless, so popped up to recce for the 20th. If it stays dry we should have no problems getting up there. Still a bit wet today. I ran a tape up a couple of trees to get an idea of what we've got. I think the biggest I can offer is around 20m, and most are around 15m, so nothing big. Nice to climb though, and being mostly oak they come out late so should still be nice and open on the 20th. Couple of photos from this morning....
  5. Short answer is yes.... Where in the country are they?
  6. The African explorers have something similar on their big shot as well I think Al. Triggers are only a tenner or so.
  7. Repeater or extender (same thing) is the answer. A little powered hub which sucks up your existing wifi and spits it out further. If you look up at the ceiling in schools and other large buildings controlled by one organisation you'll see them dotted all over the place....
  8. I've been noticing this lately, I'm only in my early 30's but I've found myself struggling to remember names, seldom used vocabulary and song titles and artists, all things which a few years ago were instant..... I think that a daily crossword is said to help. I've downloaded a crossword app for the ipad. I play the words with friends game as well. Any mental activity which forces your brain to access information outside your usual routine keeps the circuits open I believe and helps stave off altzheimer's.....
  9. If you do want to camp just let me know nearer the time and i'll sort you out with a pitch. Did you get a Teufelberger one or a hand spliced? I had a few bits arrive today, amongst them 6m of Platinum to try as a lanyard and a slightly shorter sling to make up another tether for the rw.
  10. I hate all of them with a passion, I do make sure they have to work for their rejection.....
  11. It's a long old drive! Where are you exactly?
  12. Great news, and would appreciate it Tom. Will you two come up in the morning or the Friday night? All being well I'm going to go and recce the farm this Sunday morning to see what the state of things is and identify some locations where most if us can squeeze in. If one or two local lads want to tag along you'd be very welcome. Might be helpful to have someone else who knows the layout in case we need to divide into two groups. If I can get someone to have my daughter for me I'll take some gear up with me as well....
  13. Brave man! Can you bring your kit with you so I can see what you're using dude? I'd love to start and ideally do one of Nod's courses but can't see me having the time this year....
  14. Sorry Vince Breakfasters: Arran (Arran Turner) Joe, (JNewton) Allister, (chunkymunky) Roy, (roycurwen1) Jack (jackmayo) Jake (jbowdige) Barry Chris (ChrisG) Jack (caveman27) Wayne (5 shires) Ed (Cov Climber) Brian (Rebel_Commando) Paul (Silky Fox) Max (Maxwell) Charlie (charlie) Joe Neil (Nelly Belly) Me (WorcsWuss) Rich Abbiss Possibles.... Joe (Joe Loggs) Tommy (Tommy_B) Rupe (Rupe) Vince (Sawbee) I'm going to go up this weekend to recce the trees...
  15. Did I not put it in the email....? On it's way:biggrin:
  16. This is the one you want I think. My mate bought a Chinese pot & piston for his MS240. He's given up trying to get it run right... Piston Kits for Chainsaw Mod. 044 - pin 10mm
  17. We have an early Dexta, brilliant little tractors, knocked the Massey 35 into a cocked hat. This is a Major looking at it... Also lovely tractors. Plenty of power, good strong machines. NoRush is right about checking the engine though. Block is cracked on ours. Sounds about right at £500/£600. Bargain!

Likewise, but I don't find it necessary to lift it up in front of me to activate the chain brake when snedding, just slacken the grip on the top handle to a hooked thumb and knock it on with my knuckles....
  19. I did my CS units in chaps! Perfectly legal! Still have them, don't wear them anymore myself, I wear type A's for everything and have done since the second I finished my last assessment, but I do lend them to any assistants who don't have their own. The biggest shortcoming is they catch on things. So they're a real pain for breakng down a crown, but for cutting firewood they're OK. And I don't worry about finding somewhere to change, just crack on!

Talking about over complicating something for the sake of the stupid! Stick with a normal one.....
  21. Thanks chaps, will keep you posted!
  22. Both are 'ok'. Not like native marques but they do have a following. Classic Tractor magazine is the place to start... There's a place near me which I think does Zetor spares, will see if I can find a name....
  23. Cheers Stevie. Done some googling but it's a bit of a minefield, seems a bit recent for many of the online record searches. I am half expecting records from the latter half of the 20th century to still be held by the MOD, but I've no idea where to start! Searching the names and addresses I have hasn't thrown up anything in the first few pages. We're working quite closely with the LA on it, they're into the archaeology from the cellar downwards, so I my be able to find the recipient through their records. Hopefully we're not stirring up sadness, it's always a risk.... With a bit of luck pte Evans was demobbed, started a family with his sweetheart and they're still together now!
  24. We're demolishing an old shop in Ludlow at the moment and our guys found a letter under the floorboards. It's in lovely condition and is from a Pte Evans who was a KOYLI serving in Malaya. Best guess at a date is around 1945/6, based on his opinion of The Rakes Progress which he went to see at the pictures in Penang. I brought it home to show my 6 year old son and thought we would make it a little history project and try to trace the original writer and recipient, if they're still alive, and return it to them. How would I go about starting a trace? I can just about make out his serial from the back of the envelope, and we know his rank and regiment, so presumably it shouldn't be impossible? I know we have quite a few ex-mil members amongst us and I was hoping one would be able to point us in the right direction. Thanks in advance!
