  1. I sold some Tomlin stuff when I was selling Kubota.... Might even be some photos in a thread on BX2200 tractors. Nice quality kit.
  2. He was too incompetent to realise that reverend sir just call me Tony was slipping out the back door just before the proverbial hit the fan. He was also too stupid to realise that his Tonyness was letting him deal with the mess because he knew Grumpy Gordon would make such a cock up of it that we'd all forget how useless Blair was. That said, when Gordon and his wife lost their child I thought he behaved in a most dignified way and I felt for him a great deal, it was something no one should have to deal with. He was still hopeless at his job though...
  3. I think the heyday for the store was the 80's & early 90's, going there was a proper adventure. Remember the green ex-mil torches with the 90 degree end and interchangeable filters? Don't know an boys of my age who didn't have one of them! They had some great stuff, I had an arctic sleeping bag and gore-tex bivvy from there somewhere You know they had to sell the jet they had outside? Think the APC's have gone as well now. I went to Ludlow college with a few of the Presteigne lot in 96/97/98. When did you move away?
  4. Ah, the home of Sheppards Stores! Nice part of the world. DANGEROUSLY close to Wales though! Do you still have any links to the area?
  5. I disagree with the whole union structure. A good idea spoiled. Holding the country to ransom, you either want your job or you don't. If it's not good enough let someone else have it. And the union leaders rabble rousing and manipulating the members, as it transpired not in their best interests, should have been stripped of all their cash and assets. It was unfortunate that the UK mining industry was no longer viable in it's traditional form, and that the unions destroyed any chance of a more streamlined mechanised version of the industry continuing to employ a smaller number of workers. What it wasn't, was entirely the government's fault. Modern history shows time and again that unions harm workers more often than they help them. Business and industry is, like it or not, led from the top. When mass action by employees tries to strong arm management into a business model which cannot work, the workers end up with less than they had before. I'm not saying the closure of the collieries was right, but I do think it could have been avoidable in more cases than it ended up being, had union leaders not been so arrogant insisting they knew better than NCB leaders. Even if they did, they didn't hold the deeds so it wasn't up to them. It was a sad period of our history which, just like the failure of BL and latterly Rover, should have been a wake up call to unions, and their members. Unfortunately humans rarely learn from our own mistakes.... FWIW, I think she was, without compare, the greatest post war PM this country has had, and that will probably hold true for some years to come.
  6. Let me check the numbers and come back to you. Pm me your email address and I'll send you the details... No kidding! Really?! Where abouts?
  7. A friend of mine has one of the new ones, great big lump of a thing it is. The new ones aren't a scratch on these ones in terms of both agility or aesthetic proportion in my opinion... Good choice And in the fashionable colour of white too! How very footballers wives
  8. In the eyes of the law they would still be ultimately liable as the main contractor. Liability climbs as high as it can before biting in the face whoever it stops at.... Might also crawl back and nip a few others but it always goes as high as it can first....
  9. Nice truck, always had a soft spot for these, not the later ones though. This is the only thing I'd consider over a Land Rover... Have fun!
  10. A very accomplished woman who changed this country for the better in my view. Utmost respect for her having the nerve to stand up to the trade unions, Argentina etc. We could do with someone with her grit now to nip their potential resurrection in the bud. To my mind her detractors are the 'something for nothing / chip on their shoulder brigade'. For her to get where she did as a woman in that era would have taken a dedication and determination far more powerful than anything shown by those who bemoaned her. I also think that the terminally controversial community charge was also good idea in principal [in that it wasn't a bad idea as such], after all, it's not a big expensive house with 4 people living in it which generates rubbish or uses the public libraries, it's people, so charging individuals for their use of public services makes a degree of sense to me even now. Still needs a little work of course Unfortunately it was terribly poorly implemented. [Although more so by local authorities than central government] Their inefficiency and incompetence continues to this day. You'll be missed, Mrs Thatcher
  11. We all pissed ourselves at you getting stuck in the first place already when you posted the photo the other day....
  12. I'm guessing touching himself, eating crisps, living with his parents, not having a girlfriend and congratulating himself on his superior wit and intelligence.... Anything I've missed......?
  13. This is very true. We had a run in with a nw/nf merchant a few years ago when a carpet fitter fell down an open manhole on one of our sites. These scumbags came after us as we were the main contractor for the fit out. We would have been done as well if we didn't have a watertight site set up and induction system. We had only taken possession of the inside of the building and an access route and compound at the front. The outside was still under a different main contractor who had built the shell. The carpet fitter had been employed by the client. It was only because we had inducted this bloke and he had expressly gone against his induction, which he had signed against, and used a different door in direct contradiction to our instructions that I managed to extract us from the situation. I don't see how the contractor Alistair was working for has a leg to stand on. I generally don't like litigation of insurance claims but this one feels entirely fair and justified....
  14. Absolutely. Internet porn was invented for oddballs like that....!
  15. Fair play Marcus
  16. If pushed I'd probably place my money on the latter..... What a very peculiar chap..... Oh well, not exactly any skin off our noses is it.....
  17. Very true. None of us on here know the full circumstances, only what we've seen in 1 report. All perspectives at this stage are valid, even the unpalatable ones. Until we know more it's just speculation.
  18. Did 10 miles this evening after tea from Newnham to Clows Top and back again, although half of them don't really count because they were down hill! 165m ascent over 5 miles. Think I'll make it my regular route.
  19. I used that arrangement before I moved to a fixed blade and a SAWPOD. Worked quite well!
  20. Tap on 'go advanced' below, scroll down to 'manage attachments' and tap, then upload from the new window....
  21. 100% agree with Dean on this. Don't let those scum bags get their paws on anything.... The long and short of it is that as a sub-contractor employed by someone you are covered by their ELI. Not only are you covered but it sounds very much like your employer was in breach of health & safety so could well get fined. Broken bones are a big deal to the HSE. Get a solicitor on it, or perhaps even contact your own liability insurers, they may go after his insurers.
  22. I can't see how you could possibly sell this any better Murray.....
  23. They keep rattling the sabre they might have no choice!
  24. Quite spectacular! Here's how it should be done.... Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  25. Who knows! Life is what you make it. Only person I now who came out in that class owns Muddy Boots Foods..... So can't be that bad
