  1. save the costs of a crane and just go for rigging it down and man handling it out it will then in turn not cost the customer as much as it seems they have already been put off with the price, we did a massive plane take down in central london no crane dragged it all though the house, it took a 5 days, it difficult but not all customers are willing to fork out lots of money if you get my drift. i have not seen the tree so i would not know.
  2. i have my side strop on the oppsite side to my chainsaw i used to just let the crab on the end dangle about when i was not using it but found it much more effective to clip it to the left d out the way and even tie it up as well. no snagging. as for the use with big saws on your harness i clip it to the back so that it tugs evenly and not to one side. made it a bit more comfortable. at the end of the day you just have to make do.
  3. the oaks are in the middle of the park. ill go take a photo of the lime as well tomorrow afternoon.
  4. i will take a few pictures of the oaks in the park and i have seen the hollowed out lime as well.
  5. i may have to do even more research i know there are a fair few large trees in the park. im planning on showing everyone the two sweet chesnuts in the woods as they are something to look at.
  6. i think sataday 2nd FEB is that ok im pretty busy these next few weekends. if anyone needs any more details please PM me 10 oclock start or something like that?? im not normally good at organising stuff.
  7. no its an open invite there are plenty of tall limes to try out they are all on an old avenue. good to see other peoples techniques as well.
  8. as my old boss used to say, you are not going to stop the theves as such all you can do is create as many obsticles as you can to prevent kit from being stolen. we used to have a few pull out bollards but sometime the bottoms filled up with water and in the cold weather froze it would be a nightmare. good for blocking in though.
  9. it is local woodland and have been climbing in here with mates for a few years never had a problem, people are normally quiet intrested and watch. i could watch out for the local park ranger again but, as i say i have never had a problem climbing in this woodland before.
  10. Evening all as you have probably seen in adams thread on hunting for uk gems. ive spotted a fair few trees that would be good to measure up and have a good old rec climb at the same time. the trees are all located in wippendell woods just outside watford. ive scouted out a few limes a beech and a few planes that may be worth giving a shot. im not sure on what day to do it but the first weekend of FEB on the saturday may be a good start let me know if any of you are intrested. Nathan.
  11. good question really but they are for sure at 100 feet when they are this height its hard to tell but other trees in these woods that i have climbed have been close to the 120 feet mark judging my rope was 36meters and when at tip it was brushing the floor
  12. Watford mate and yes im on instagram
  13. nice one joe i think i still have your number, there is a fair few and it may be time to get some use of the RW at last a big shot may be a good advantage as well.
  14. well a short cycle ride over to wippy woods today to scout out a few big limes to get the measure out on, there is at least 20 or so in this avenue so if anyone care to join me in the next few weeks feel free. here are some of them.
  15. 1st step never run it over with the landy that will not help it in any way. my last one i had for around 3 years the fire base was a little beat up but it all worked fine. until i ran it over keeping it clean and dry is fine dont leave water in it for a long period of time. I have a pot stand that sits on top but I never really use it but it is good once your fire is nice a hot. ive now got a new one which im sure will last for a long time.
  16. i think im going to take a trip up there next week and have a go on the avenue of limes try and fing the tallest one.
  17. we were talking about this at work today and were not sure but we think its from some crane leg at some point we used to use it to jack up the mog when we were fixing it.
  18. well as for the last day at work for the year :biggrin:we were on a bit of a tidy up of the yard so here our, home made log splitter, very efficent and easy to use and as of yet there has not been a log that it cant split even the really knotty stuff.
  19. hope it does not cause too many problems for you joe and make a swift recovery. be careful out there.
  20. well here we go wednesdays large ash fell on the edge of a woodland, very close to a house, it was in a bit of a sorry state but the job went really well all waste stayed were it was, finished by 1:thumbup:
  21. right ive got my rope wrench just trying to get a suitable tether going but im not sure whats best a lose teather of a small diamiter friction cord. or a stiff teather whats best is it personal precerence would a stiff teather of the correst length pretty much set the RW for you unlike a losse teather which would manually need setting ?? am i sort of right just to check ??
  22. cheers mate im sure there will be many more photos to follow and some more of another mog thats a working process with a crane on the back and a timber trailer. i think the mos is a u2145 dont hold me to it i will find out though.
