  1. tom i would beg to differ on what you are trying to say if i have read this correctly i do not know what position you are in and I did not that long ago complete a level 2 diploma in trees and timber apprenticeship. and are you saying that this was point less and all that is needed is the CS units??? i think i is very important to learn why someting is done to a tree rather than just letting somone pass a CS ticket which only proves they are competent and they may know sweet FA about trees and there bioligy.
  2. pretty much mate it is down to personal preference on how a harness is for them i have a petzl sequoia and its a wicked harness very comfortable, try the both on if you can get used to sitting in them.
  3. well said dean... i had to fill up today after work i was on fumes was stuck in a queue for over 30 mins engine off i ended up rolling onto the forcourt have a much lighter pocket as well now
  4. yes i do wear glasses but thats down to bad sight they are terrible on rainy days but always a visor been hit in the visor by ash and stuff being spat back out in an instant and would hate to know what it could do without a visor..... possibly a missing tooth or two
  5. yea i did the same thing im 18 and put 2 named drivers onto the policy and it knocked it down by alot but its still very high
  6. well after my last thread was about possibly moving employment sadly my hours are down to nothing ive got a very small amount of work helping a friend doing grounds maintanence but this is only temporary. The car bit comes into play as the site im working at is quite a distance away from my house and my previous employer was onl a five min cycle so for now to progress in getting a new job.I brought a car and had to bite the bullet and pay a pretty large sum but its finally got me on the ladder lets hope the job hunting goes well. im sure its easier than trying to find cheap car insurance.... on the other hand i think its pretty similiar.
  7. cheers minotaur taking on what you have said and its pretty dam important to present your self in a proffessional manor by keeping up on maintance on equipment and ppe. but too much may be a bad thing i do not know all im going to do is be myself on time, pretty well mannered, and work to the best of my abilites and knowlege
  8. "not bad"... if only every job was as simple as that
  9. cheers for the advice paul, all ive got to do is not dawn on what has happened and look at doing the best and improve further in the industry by looking for a new workplace to continue with what i have learned and enjoy the most.
  10. ive used both machines and are pretty similar TW hopper can be a bit annoying with wide nasty branches but chips quick and well. the quad chip is a wicked machine used one once for the day was a great machine only thing the hopper faces down a bit more but it just means you cant leave branches in the hopper. they both have pros and cons
  11. i not that long ago enquired and they only had first climber positions and i would not put myself just there yet, this was at the shenley yard though not sure about any others
  12. very good idea paul as i still really want to improve on my climbing as im still learning i help my freind doing grounds stuff 3 days a week so if i can find somewhere else i may be lucky to work on a part time basis doing tree work i have just got to hope for the best its hard but it comes to the best of companies.
  13. ill try my best spoken to them before but i dont think they have any avaliable positions yet
  14. so as i thought it could hit at any moment the company is suffering finachially and my hours have been seriously reduced cant do much about it luckly i have a freind that im helping doing ground maintainence but this is only short term lets just hope for the best
  15. big bowl of shreddies and a cup of tea for me.
  16. many thanks guys, not sure what sort of situation you guys are in ie: large scale work or a small company but whats you verdict on going to a larger company i am edging towards it as i have paid for all my tickets and some larger companys offer training schemes to increase my expirence and progression in arb
  17. I completly understand where you are comming for my boss already knows about this as i have spoken to him my current company is a one van works and he has taken on a new groundsman as i was on my apprentship and as i have finished my course he is keeping me on until the end of the summer but he will not finalically be able to keep me on as i completly get. many thanks for the concerns though. just enquiries at the moment.
  18. evening all over the summer i am planning on moving on from my current employer for many different reasons but on the whole what are peoples verdict on moving to a much larger company ie(arb approved contractor) or keep it pretty simple, if so what are the good ones to look out for within my area. 22. ive recently made the move onto a zubat and its wicked seems to take less effort does not fall out of its sheith and as of yet its lasted more than two weeks without snapping so better than previous silkys snapping daily or loosing teeth
  23. not trting to create a pun with this thread but over the past couple of months i have noticed the difference in the thickness in the blades, are silky getting sloppy and trying to con us off i dont know but at the moment it only seems to be on the shorter gomtoro saws. whats everyone elses view on them theses days at the moment they keep braking
