  3. we once hired our previous st-30 out to a local landscaper to cart 30 tonnes of leaf mouldy compost stuff 400yards from the drop site up a garden to a newly created bed,had put it in 4wd for 2days solid on hard surfaces and had the front axle so hot the paint had rippled around the front diff
  4. could be worse heard a story of a chap in our local town, had a Chinese takeaway then went to dentist week later with pain from his wisdom tooth, upon examination the dentist recovered a micro chip from under his gum pouch later identified as a locals cat which mysteriously never returned home one night.......................:puke:
  5. if your groundys twatted the camera with the steps you wont see it fall off as it falls off on route homeward bound
  6. it is indeed dog eat dog, we charge £17.50/hr/man but regularly loose jobs to people charging £15/hr/man, we often get return customers from these scenarios as these other cannot keep it afloat at those prices. We make up with compact tractor mowing normally that goes out @ £38.00/hr/unit + chap strimming @ £17.50/man/hr
  7. ours goes out for the following bits, sometimes need to hire additional implements etc. -hedge cutting -carting/muck shifting in large gardens -log splitting -trenching -small woodland mgmt. tasks -fencing -gritting -larger landscape jobs, moving shrubs/trees -levelling bar for drives/ménages -towing our chipper/ timber off jobs never hire it out without operator as ive learnt it normally comes back bent.lol in the spring it goes out with hollow tine aerator and scarifier to larger maintenance jobs and in the summer its on the flail and or finishing mower hope this helps
  8. eddy_t was the 346 an xp or xpg? there was one for sale(xpg) in the local buy n sell in Biddulph, when I read it yesterday at the mother in laws, there was no bar cover with this one, 15" bar and nearly new chain £150.00 ono smelt a rat as was rather cheap?
  9. had an infra red one mounted on chip box roof to see chipper! it was ace but now on the 3rd one as it either filled with chip bits or someone knocked it off its mount with the ladders. will definatly fit another when I get chance, until then shall carry on by backing up by feel.lol
  10. hope this chap isn't on here. everyone has their own overheads, yes £400.00/day for 3lads is very cheap but if he can sustain a business on this and is fully qualified and insured then let him get on with it. people will work for what they think they are worth, as a rule of thumb our 2man team is £400.00/day which we feel is reasonable, But since the downturn we have moved into grounds maintenance and charge £17.50/hr/man for this, we are constantly being slated by other GM contractors of being too cheap so in general its all swings & roundabouts . We cover our overheads with the above pricing and make a reasonable profit with enough in the kitty to replenish/ replace equipment when required. Also as a rule of thumb our jobs are priced "per job" and not on a day rate, unless its a large job and we are unsure of a time scale etc. IMO in neither slating this company or siding with them as this industry is soo varied and everybodys overheads are totally different. Rant over Alex _M please don't feel im slating your thread on pricing etc etc just my opinion
  11. chap at our yard has the tilt bed as above, nothing but mither, the ramps buckled and the assistor rams seize and bent frequently. Dad also had a 16ft general bateson flatbed. vWas terrible, very poor quality finish, galv started perishing within 18months,chassis twisted and the suspension units needed replacing after only 2 years,he only transports builders tardis on it so was hardly abused weight wise. however never had experience of the tippers, could be different
