  1. dependant on size of job, figures involved etc X is sometimes passed back onto client . more often than not its only a nominal fee so we bank it and class it as admin
  2. don't flip yours Stephen, u might bend the spout on the chipper
  3. just a good job we don't run mogs then isn't it im just stating it as over here everyone runs tractors on red carting whatever they want too, I used to work on a farm and know 1st hand what goes on.lol if I had a mog registered as ag on red at my business address then yes probs would get a visit from vosa but im just merely stating the amount of contractors slip through the belt as the machines are registered at their farms. get an 8 wheeler as I earlier stated, do it properly from the get go
  4. ive looked at this hedge over and over again, its got huge owd stows in it and the stocks are fairly far apart, its almost a row of hawthorn trees now as opposed to a hedge, that's why im reserved about doing it TBH. Think its going to look a mess. lol
  5. sounds daft but that's how I started at 16! had a 250cc quad and went round the village on me round towing trailer for my waste. just an idea, will get you going you can handle a fair volume of waste with that kind of trailer and have very little weight. Then gradually upgrade to van then chipper as and when you can afford
  6. Tony, get a small bateson trailer 10ft with mesh sides to start with something your estate can handle! then see how you go on from there:thumbup:
  7. thanks for all the advice guys thinking I will leave it be until the client mithers me some more
  8. sod that work for your employer during the week, do your own bits at wknds ££££££££££ till you have enough to put down for a suitable vehicle etc, Then when you have your vehicle & plentiful sources of work then register SE :thumbup1:
  9. hey im a hay shaking carrot crunching argi underneath but even I am now maturing to the currently endless new legislations blah blah blah we operate in the sticks so could probably run a mog indefiantly on red with no o license carting whatever we wanted and probably never get caught but I now worry about the "what if" ? it only takes one incident these days to open a huge can of horrible worms for you My opinion is this chap in the OP sounds like he will be running around in built up areas where theres more chance of incidents being pulled blah blah
  10. heres an idea Mogs are cool but a mega grey area all round, As stated previous, get one lorry (8wheeler) hook loader with hiab. Mate runs two of them for groundwork. Slightly shorter skip rigs to accommodate hiab behind cab so you loose abit of room having shorter skips. have 2 or 3 skips, high sided for chip, lower sides for lifting timber into etc.
  11. I also prefer repeat work but all too many times in the past ive been too cheap and ended up working for less than wages due to unforeseen setbacks / needing additional bits and bobs for the job. I quote correctly for each job and make allowances for additional things that may be required, that way I don't need to go back to the client halfway through a task and request more money than originally quoted for, due to something that hadn't been picked up upon during quotation. take the job listed above, when we removed the old wooden gate post from the concrete one to fill the gap with panel, turned out the concrete post was cracked and being held together by the wooden one. We had £30.00 budgeted for something like this so we were able to replace the post with new , If we didn't have this extra budget we would of been £30.00 or so down if we didn't use it theres 1/4 tank of diesel to cover you for the initial driving round to quote, expenses quoting postage blah blah
  12. don't sell yourself short. I have no idea how big a jo beau is etc. chipper and 2xmen go out at day rate for us, either way if we take chip or client retains it we are in budget as we sell chip on etc. tried chipper and 1x man and its un productive IMO as joe blogs never stacks brash neatly for chipper feeding etc , always better with 2x men one to drag and one to feed IMO £390.00 for chip truck, chipper, 2men
  13. same as above its a business ie to make a profit, not just wages, if the customer was happy with the quote you give then get on with it I say :thumbup1:
  14. we did a similar job other week replaced 17 panels, block up and old gate hole with new base and panel and construct/install 2 new gates. took 3 of us a day to do this job including collecting materials & building gates from scratch and installing. the panels were a B**** to replace as the old posts had moved etc. most of the panels required trimmers installing on them to bulk them out to be a tight fit in the posts. we charged £500.00 for labour for the 3 of us for a day. That also covers our equipment too mind, paslode, chop saw, genny etc etc. Do you see that as expensive? the lady was well chuffed with the job.
  15. either squirrel or Himalayan mountain goat damage TBH
  16. rock up when the cheapies are there, stunt fell it onto their caravan and run away quickly.job done
  17. presumably that price includes your burn up and stakes etc?
  18. hi all never attempted any hedge laying myself but been asked by a regular client about laying a very large old thorn hedge. I myself have no experience in this so any advice is great firstly what kind of price per metre do you put forward to client? also is there anyone on here in the Cheshire area into laying that would come and price for me/ willing to do the work on a day rate basis? If its too ,much mither, I will gladly pass anyones number to the client whos interested Andi
  19. sorry to hear that meode but im sure you will be at it again in no time, the treeworks a bug that once you get it,you cant stop . if you were local id of found you a few days to tide you over.
  20. bloody hell rich wish we could get 100hrs outta ours.lol ours say change blades at 20hrs but we go off chip quality tbh. we put new set of them Saturn knives in today....not impressed:thumbdown: loosing their edge already after only 4x tranny loads in clean conifer:thumbdown: oops back to the thread, your clock ticks whenever the ignition is "ON" running or not
