  1. thanks James, yup its mainly the fencing we have pushed into and doing well, Ive even had a bloke ask me "so whats your profit on my job?!?!" cheeky sod, surely they realise that the aim of a business is to make profit not just wages! I don't go into Tesco and ask them "whats your mark up on this produce?!" I seem to be getting the jist of it now that im doing it the right way. I know a landscaper who lists his profit on the quotation! Wouldn't say that's the done thing but he always has and says that he shows the client everything & being honest to show your profit ! he always seems busy ! (maybe he is too cheap!) Thanks for the advice guys will keep plodding as I am me thinks
  2. ouch what happened to the tranny in that pic? seems to of hit something large and immovable.lol
  3. brill thanking you pal. only posted as I nearly came unstuck the other day with a drainage job and the client already knew the ball park figures involved with the materials. so was to see how the rest gets around these challenging situations, as im not the best when it comes to the gift of the gab.haha
  4. So basically your total is all in inc. your profit. how do you get around the minority of customers who like to see whats in your quote etc or are they just told that's the price all in !lol
  5. thanks LC that's the route Im currently using. just takes the P*** when the customer goes "ive seen that for blah blah cheaper on the net" my response to these such responses is "we only install quality from our suppliers" but then I worry that due to this response I may loose this job to joe blogs that'll work for a dime and not be concerned about profit margins, quality of his work blah blah .
  6. hi all we have diversified over the last 18months or so into more landscaping etc. what im wondering is, how do you guys build profit into your jobs? ie, do you have materials +30% to supply your profit or labour +30% for your profit margins? the reason im wondering as ive never had an issue with the tree work as its price for the job, end of. But with landscaping clients often want a breakdown of the quotation to compare etc etc, this is where I feel I risk becoming unstuck by exposing my profits etc. Advice would be great PS im not asking how to price for jobs as I know that, just how you build your profit into the job etc.
  7. the phone over here is awful. one week you have no calls.........you start to panic, then the next week its red hot and books you up for a few weeks! had 8 calls since Monday regarding work and every job we have been on this week has increased in size once we were there! cant complain like
  8. been beautiful today, even had shirt off today, whilst digging footings for a shed base. not looking forward to tomorrow cold with bitterly east winds forecast here
  9. our old sg13 did that, we found it to be the choke lever moving ever so slightly it was ace. the bandit only pops bangs, and deafens you ~
  10. here's our home made chip box. lifts on/off in one piece when not required, lights just unplug from headboard. sides are 1/4 " exterior ply, frame consists of box section & plate. think it cost us £350.00 all in to build and best thing is it lifts off in seconds. hope u get some inspiration
  11. per inch? isn't price per foot much easier to quote? or per job?
  12. proarc used to make some mega road towable machines, going back a few yrs. problem with all new ones they are built to a budget, not a spec. personally id look at a little browns 3pt linkage splitter for a tractor and run off a power pack, definatly more about them material wise if you get me. apologies my post reads arsey and wasn't meant to be.lol the older splitters are still the better ones available if you can find them Andi
  13. both seem pretty pants tbh mate very slow cycle times and not overly built for years of continuous use?!
  14. tis funny the whole seasoned wood business. some customers want the wood so dry that,5mins on the fire and woosh its gone! others seem to prefer the slightly damper stuff im currently selling as they say its not any harder to get going, and once going you can shut the burner right down and the log will keep the fire in for hours? whilst still giving out plenty of heat. personal preference it seems.
  15. would make better fire wood surely? just a thought................
  16. ours is now unseasoned only been down and split 5months, its down to 22% mc already not advertising it but if the regulars phone,i inform them it isn't seasoned, as long as they're told its still greenish then most are fine its these rascals selling green wood as seasoned that give us a bad name:(
  17. I know I know apparently they took gullable out of my dictionary too :blushing:
  18. BUMP.................just seen forecast for next week COLD again but dry at least
