  1. People have no confidence in themselves these days to do what our four fathers would have taken for granted, also having health and safety rammed down our throat at every opportunity is having an effect, I live and work in a mountain environment so walking the hills is second nature to me, i am also old enough not to be taken in by the nanny state, at presrnt i am nursing a couple of broken ribs through a little mishap by myself, but hey, I'll live.
  2. If they all took a 10 -15 pay cut, they would still probably have a job, Brittish wages are higj in comparison with China, but thats only part of the problem, Almost every commodity in the world is awash with over supply and low demand, so much fo Osborne's economic recovery,
  3. Had a long weekend in Snowdonia 26 years ago visiting family, on the last day went up Snowden via the pyg track and down again, drove the 2 hours in the XR2i home to the evening of our village show, by which time most of us had moved to the pub to which i saw this gorgeous buxom brunette looking slightly anxious with a gentle Scottish accent standing by my side, the rest is history and she is still by my side 26 years later as my wife. those were the days.
  4. I wandered how long it would take you to ask that. lets hear what you think on the mstter jon boy.
  5. Good pics, at the bottom of your page you mention Tyler Durden, .. the very same one from Zerohedge fame?
  6. So tell me have you done anyone the slightest favour in your life without charging. Because this is more or less what you are implying.
  7. Unless i am incredibly lucky but i have a had a unbelievable amount of good will shown to me over the years, business lunches, spare parts, free labour, and gifts for doing awkward jobs for people, I get the impression that some people here would sell their granny for two bob.
  8. You are been selective. The glass in question is washed alongside probably hundreds of other pieces of cutlery, so the actual cost is niether here or there, Do you charge your customers for quoting for work after they have asked you to take a look? Or is it all part of the job.?
  9. Its only tap water for god sake, its free to the shop unlees they are on a meter, we live in a world of everyone on the make, and its sickening sometimes, Just look at delight on someone's face when you give them something for free, as i say its only water,
  10. I agree, Its a sad day when you can't have a cup of water, warm or cold, i dont buy all that about the 3 minutes for the dishes either, they all washed in dishwasher, If they charged me for water i wouldn't go there again out of principle, we all know the feeling of having something for nothing once in a while. I wouldn't charge for water and i dont expect to be charged either.
  11. Most here wouldn't know a Komatsu 860 if they fell over it.
  12. high ranking civil servants are becoming rich, they don't take financial risks or get their hands dirty, they are in a win win situation.
  13. Its the ones who dont thank you after giving help is what irks me.
  14. the head of the Environment agency Sir Phillip Dilley is expected back in the UK on Wednesday cutting short his family holiday in Barbados. So fear not, phil is on the case now.
  15. jon. just google 'the Peninnes' and tell me what you think. or look at a map.
  16. Ok jon. you should know your geography. a long range of peaty hillsides known as the 'roof of britain' the Peninnes, perfect for growing spruce are quite close to Leeds and Manchester.
  17. Why put oaks when spruce will do a far better job. a 60ft spruce will hold a lot more water than a 20ft oak.
  18. Jon. I never hear of flooding in the Tyne valley leading into Newcastle and the north sea. why? Because Europe's largest man made forest kielder soakes up all the rainfall no problem. the proof is there for all to see.
  19. its useless putting oak on rough high land, they will never come to anything other than big bushes, plant dense spruce to soak up the rain and provide timber and jobs for the future. clear fell after 35 years so the trees don't get too tall and replant, if need be plant hardwoods around the edges to keep the 'greens' happy.
  20. Yes but in blue.... and better tyres too.
  21. My County 754 tractor, its actually 1973, and still looking good. Had three new engines fitted mind.
  22. another problem is that these modern machines are so productive, a harvester snd forwarder can do 1000ton a week which leads to over supply hence driving down timber prices. is it any wonder thst timber prices are the same a 40 years ago. mechanisation has killed it IMO.
  23. Well i remember as a kid going around a corner in my fathers lorry in in the passangers seat in the late 70's to see one of these parked accross the forestry road set up as a highlead winching some big larch down a steep slope, i remember chuckling to myself saying what sort of a contraption is this as it seemed pretty slow moving.
