  1. How is 12 30-40 trees meant to make up a lorry load? The trees will need to be over two tonne each to make a lorry load , i doubt they would be two tonne at that age,
  2. If you asked how much for a beech dismantle in Surrey you would be snowed under with answers, they would out like fly's around a jam pot. Whereas the wilds of Glenbranter no one wants to know. assuming the trees are about half a tonne each about £3 per tonne would be a fair price for felling only, if the trees a bigger than this you would probably need to cut off the first couple of sawlogs so the skyline can handle the trees up the hillside so £5 per tonne would suffice. But normaly contrators pay day rate so you can help with skyline setup and chockering etc.
  3. Have you tried taking the hoses off the ram end and seeing if the oil is gushing out when you pull the lever? If the oil is gushing out when you press the lever the problem is probably your internal gland on the cylinder are broken up.
  4. For this sort of thing in the past i have used Hytec hydraulics in Wishaw Glasgow. Phone 01698 355222. They should sort you out. Cheers.
  5. What make of valve chest is it? Eg, Sauer, Danfoss, etc, Find the make and then google the UK agents and go from there. Most hydraulic engineers should help you out also.
  6. Put the 13m socket back on the nut and mig weld the socket to the nut through hole in the back of the socket but keep the square free of weld to put the ratchet back on, you will have to take this to someone who has a mig welder of course. . But please remove the battery leads as the welding might interfere with the vehicle electric system. Good luck.
  7. Can you hammer and chisel it off.
  8. I remember the winter of 93/94 was almost as wet as this one, then after a dry early autumn in 93 it began raining every day and i mean every day, it never stopped raining till good friday, not a day went by that we were soaked to the skin felling 5000 ton of spruce about 1200ft above sea level in mid wales. funny how things stick your mind.
  9. it reminds me of that film 'Duel ' with that old yellow truck on the rampage, but never saw the drivers face.
  10. Looks like a expensive hobby to me jon, I'd say a few pistons coming out from the con rod at some point.. huge strain on both engines and transmission, is it Russian?
  11. Do you think they would pass the mot emissions test?
  12. Agreed with everything thats said, the constant rain gets me down too, .. but just fast forward to heat of July, flies, dust, thirst, loss of weight, engines over heating, sleep loss due to heat, and the worst of all that shimmer of heat just about off the ground in front of you as you fill up the saw for its 10th filling of the day at 3.45 on a thursday afternoon feeling scorched, knackered and very iritable on a steep south facing hillside just wishing i could take these heavy chainsaw trousers off and replacing with jeans. Oh the joys of summer.
  13. Sounds like the cheviot to me, did it have the white county cab and wide wheels? Both the cheviot and the falstone were named after Northumbrian villages, where they were made,
  14. Would that be the cheviot skidder?
  15. Is that a old falstone skidder i can see on right on the photo? Used to have one of those about 25 years ago , good old thing, with the spacer in between the gearbox and bell houseing to make the wheel base longer to give extra traction, I always found that the four cylinder county was much more manoeuvre able and better balanced on steep ground than the six cylinder models, i have a county 754 with a 90hp engine and it will climb a house and very stable going across banks, love to bits,
  16. Hi bob, looks a good job you have done there, did you use some sort of gasket or seal in between the tank and the plate?
  17. Hi Rob I would go for a manual operated three point linkage winch something like a fransguard or igland 5 to 6 ton range, about 10 to 20 year old that you can pick up from ebay etc for £ 1500 to £ 2000 mark, simple to mend and pay for, modern winches aren't compatible with an old major due to electrics needed to operate the controls , plus you will need a dry cab to put the digital module in, plus with three point linkage you can take the winch off and use the tractor for something else.
  18. yes I'm afraid so...you can't escape the red tape that easy.
  19. Thats the one, never actually done Ben Nevis, to crowded, but done all the hills on the south side of Glen Coe, the view from Buachaille etive mor is superb.
  20. Sorry to derail the thread but the wife has a 08 astra 18sri that runs down the battery if parked for a week, checked to see if any inside lights are on and number plate light etc but nothing showing, it does charge up, any help would be appreciated.
  21. Hello jon, without going too much into it, its all down to oversupply and low demand throughout the world, coupled with the high operations cost and overheads here in the UK and this what you get, the government want every penny they can get through various taxes etc to pay down the interest on the national debt.
  22. go on jon put some meat on bone and give us a proper explanation on why the steel industry is struggling, so I can discuss it further with you as you started the thread.
  23. I had a leaking oil tank on my forwarder, a long narrow crack, had it welded three times, each time it lasted about a week before I gave in and replaced it. but my tank was quite highly pressurised which yours might not be so much so try welding.
  24. all you need is to take your t shirt off put on a bandana do some heavy breathing and Johny Rambo is making a come back.
