  1. Someone mention Hitler?......Geoff ..You do paint a very bad picture of Mein Fuhrer You know........... Lolol.
  2. Thats called spread betting, short term currency trading, no tax on spread betting as it classed as betting which is tax free,
  3. totally wrong there Steve totally, By the time you take the spread difference out, initial fees, fund managers fees, financial advisors fees out there is nothing left, plus the fact if the said invested shares fall you are onto a loser big time, There is only one person who really cares about your money and that is you. Don't leave it to the suits, they are only interested in blinding you with science and looking after number 1.
  4. That made me laugh....... Just cut me in for 10% of future profits, Waahoo I'm onto a winner !!!!! :thumbup1:
  5. Ok chaps i shall try my best, might be tomorrow,,...... oh no what have i set my self up for. lol.
  6. Lot of good posts on this thread, Going one step further, for me making money out of cutting trees is only one thing, the other and for me more important thing is what you do with it once you have it. An old boy told me about 15-20 years ago "you've worked for the money and now the money must work for you", apart from making a living and reinvesting in the business, I have invested considerable amounts in 6 specially chozen shares which I have reseached to death, although one can never really say for sure what the future holds, if these 6 company's don't double in the next 2 years then i'm a dutchman, Through a lack of mobile signal usually in remote work locations, I have no idea what is happening on the London stock exchange, I can't wait to get home to see whats happened, its giving me a new hobby, something totally different from machines, mud, oil, and trees, its got to stage I would rather have a day off just looking at the live share prices flashing red and green on my laptop. This is something I never saw myself doing previously, but times change.
  7. Hello all. From what I can gather, Defra will give a maximum of £25k out to suitlable apllicants, can someone post up the link that shows which organisation will give 50% grant as in some previous post's say they can do "match funding". cheers.
  8. Dean I see where you are coming from, but in the scale of things setting up as a two man tree surgeon is peanuts in comparrison with some other business's,eg timber lorry and crane £140k excavator £90k, timber harvestor and forwarder £500k, Not to mention the huge running costs, insurance, tyres, fuel, etc etc.......all working as cheap as they can to secure the work, I know of a haulier who runs 9 artics and his profit was 47k last year, from a turnover of £980k, a friend of mine spent 500k on forestry kit and made 39k, profit.. I think some people here don't know when they are well off.....
  9. For a different slant on the war I recommend "Enemy At The Gate" and "Stalingrad" Both brutal but tells it how it was.
  10. It was the Russian winter and introduction of the T34 tank that eventually nullified the Wehrmacht's Eastern Front's offensive, combined with the vast distances that Russia offers effectivly making the D-Day landing easier for the Western Allies in 44.
  11. Never seen one myself, but i have come across some rather large what seemed like big cat footprints in the mud about 15 years ago, they were bigger than a mans hand in size. All i know its a good job that my black and white cat Throbbbing Gristle is not the same size as me because it wouldn't be safe to cross the room, he'd have me. I can see him licking his lips right now.
  12. Check your main bearings, is the drum sounding course and difficult to pull when you pull the rope out? if so there is a high chance that the problem lies with a broken bearing as when you pull the rope out it will drag on the clutch and will winch the rope back in albeit with no real power, so i would check your bearings first, also there might be some side wobble on the drum if more than one bearing is worn, you can also try playing with the clutch adjuster too.
  13. Whats the point in having breakfast in bed if you have to get up to get to work anyway?
  14. Sam..... Have you ever heard of " The big grey man of Ben Macdui", tales to make your hair curl. For those that have never heard of it I recommend to google it, well worth it.
  15. As my father used to say " no need to be frightened of the dead, Its the ones alive you have got to watch" .
  16. The only experience I can really remember happenend about 20 years ago, I was just finishing off stacking the timber before going home for tea on the forest roadside with the county and crane when i burst a hydraulic hoze, I had to clear the road of timber as a artic was due in to fetch some loads early next morning, got the broken hoze off went home to have tea and make up a new hoze, got back up the wood fitted the new one back on finished stacking the timber, parked up the tractor and as walking back to the van in semi darkness a sort of small flame appeared right in front of me probably about the same size of a large match at chest height which lasted about 5 seconds, untill it it fizzled out. Could it have been the dreaded "corpse's candle's" it is reputed that if someone see's these then someone either in the local area or someone you know is going to die.
  17. Hi Jago, The Jonsered 630 is a 61.5cc saw based from the huskvarna 162, good reliable hard wearing saws, last made around 15 years ago, think i had about 3 or 4 over the years, they were mainly used for piece work felling back in 80s and 90s, can't think of any weak points to look out for, as for the bar and chain, they run on a 3/8 pitch, 73lp, chain, bar size 13" to 18", aye they were good old saws the 630s were. Good luck. Ps many huskvarna parts fit jonsered.
  18. Most good agricultural machinery dealers will find take your kohler filter number and cross reference it with a corresponding make of filter, does the kohler match up in size and screw on thread with the fram? if so thats the one you want.
  19. I agree lorrys and soft ground don't go together, they always find the weak spots and in the wheels go, also the trailer can can slide sideways on the slightest of gradients, i'd phone up the driver and explain the conditions to him, its up to him then.
  20. Just thinking back to a couple of years ago, my self an my subbie Chris who is 13 years my junior who does judo, went up to the Scottish Highlands to view a machine that was for sale, we stopped for a break in Fort William, went for some lunch and came back out to find that it was pouring down, left our coats in the car, anyway we stared running, getting faster and faster, until it turned into a full blown race for about 200 metres until we reached the car exactly side by side, not even the width of a cigarette paper between us, the two us wasn't giving an inch to the other. Just as we got to the car a police car came up behind us, and the policeman got out and asked us what was going on as we were acting suspicously and took our reg number, with both of us out on our feet from running our explanations didn't seem to cut much ice with police officer who must have thought we had committed a robbery of sorts. We still have a laugh over this, ...... childish or what.
  21. 43, hate the thought of getting older, but time waits fo no man, Have aches and pains that come and go, there is an old saying that "a creaking gate lasts a long time", we'll see......... been involved with trees all my life.
  22. Stuff that, don't like fish, wine, or guitar's for that matter, Get that timber out as fast as you can, thats the name of the game, Its with this very attitude in the story above, that some counties in europe find themselves in need of the odd bailout here and there, Luftwaffe........ wiping the sweat from his brow!!!
  23. Just as i was reading your last post the laptop overheated on my knee, Back up and running now after a quick hoover at the back, well as if by magic the sound icon red cross has vanished, so its back to normal i hope, Many thanks for your help..... You're a goodun, Cheers.
