  1. Well I go through a 357 every 12 months, mind you it does about 1500 hours in that time of grinding hard work, after about 9 months i can really see the saw starting to go downhill, mainly loss of power, I then p/x it at 12 months for a new one, costs me about £275 to change. Yes i know i could spend money on it to replace the worn parts, but i prefer to change for a new one.
  2. hello all This is something that has intriuged me for sometime now, What would the good people here at Arbtalk do if they had £100k to spare, would they invest it in, stocks and shares, property,or invest it in furtheing their business. I fully realise that we are all different in our aspect to life, age, and ambitions , health etc etc, But what would you do? Cheers.
  3. is the hedge only one tree thick? you will probably need a access platform to work from, if i was on piece work i'd do it in a day off a platform,( my backround is commercial forestry), but this is a different ball game where i would have to slow myself down to justify my £1800 estimate, price it with the hired platform in mind. £300 for platform £1500 profit over 3 days, can't be bad:laugh1:
  4. Orwite Trig, try Boycee, he's normally got a few stumps that need grinding,........know what i mean!!! no seriously, good luck.
  5. Lets not make mountain out of a molehill, it doesn't count on the richter scale.
  6. Aye, thats would have been the right thing to do.
  7. The chainstores aren't the ones taking a hit, its their suppliers who will be crucified for supplying "substandard quality" trees.
  8. Most big chain stores have a moneyback system inplace to satisfy customers who are not pleased with the product they have bought, afterall the customer is always right.
  9. Which one are we in? Nazi Germany or Communist Russia.
  10. Prolonged use of leather gloves over years in wet weather can lead to arthritis of the knuckle joints,........ can't stand wearing gloves myself, I have to laugh at some lorry drivers etc, first thing they do when getting out of the cab is put on gloves, to do the most lightest of duties...... you wouldn't see Fred Dibnah doing that:001_tt2:
  11. Can't stand modern TV, its all dross, hardly watch much these days, all i watch now is match of the day and dads army on mainstream TV,
  12. Yes they were happy days, i remember sometimes coming out from the wood so knackered, i was shaking, you don't see people working like that these days, but everyone else did too, that was the norm, life was far simpler too, far less rules and regs to comply with too, yes the work was brutal but we were happy so thats good. Cheers.
  13. Yes agreed, but if there is a blockage its still in there somewhere, or its dispersed into small bits, worth checking the oil for iron fillings,
  14. I loved shortwooding back in the 80's and 90's, used to do about 12 ton per day, in 0.20m tree size, logs, bars, and pulp, @ £8 per ton, good money back then. used to go through a 254 every 6 months or so.
  15. It could be due to having 3 very cold winters in a row. one of my hedges is suffering from it also.
  16. Yes as Spud says it could be your clutch springs are broken, take the side plate off and have a look, does the saw conk when the chain break is in on position on tickover?, if it is, all quite easy to fix and relativly inexpensive. good luck.
  17. I would get it sorted and keep it as a back up saw,
  18. Have a look at the hoses, something could be restricting the oil flow, take them of one by one and blow them out with a airline.
  19. Sam Sam Sam,.... well you know what thought did, didn't you,....drugs, lead a shelterd life,.... sex oh yes no shortage of that.... cyber bullying, unheard of. So you think everything is "hunky dory" out there do you, go on have moan, get it off your chest, i'm all ears Luftwaffe, not a fan of people who refuse to remove their rose tinted spectacles.
  20. County, there's no might about it, they do have 1 week off in every 6. don't play down that fact, so now they work one day of every weekend????, also they are in school by seven in the morning, thats what i call stretching it a bit There are those that do........ and there is those that teach.
  21. Well i just wish that she would get to the point, nothing worse than someone mincing their words, lol.
  22. But thats life isn't it?, dealing with weather etc, kids these day are so mollycodelled that they can't-aren't expected to think their way out of out of situations, I remember only too well when i was in school the things i had to do just to get to school, cycle down farm tracks, up the other side(pushing), back down the other side, over a footbridge, through the wood, all because it was a short cut for me, and i thought nothing of it, it was normal, i wasn,t the only one either. I don't recognize kids now, they are more akin to teddy bears, strapped up in mummy's 4x4 just like they are having a ride in alton towers, no wonder when kids leave school now that they are don/t know their a*** from their elbow, its not their fault its the society we live in. Lufwaffe...... hankering back to better times.
