  1. I take your point, all depends on the circumstance's at the time, local authority's closing schools incase the worst does happen and someone is found guilty of negligence and sued, bang goes their pension,........ got to get their backs covered.
  2. I'm very much on the mark there mate, through out the 12 month period, every 6 weeks they have a week off, not to mention a short working day, would you like to pay people 35k working for you on those terms?
  3. Come on, they're all in it together, bunch of back sratchers, teachers still getting paid though.
  4. More time off for the teachers then!!! Question Would teachers be so keen to close the schools if their pay was affected?
  5. Trouble is though folks all the "tidy folk" are moving out from the city's and move to the country and bumping up the local house prices so the young locals haven't got a look in when it comes to buying local houses, priced out of the market by people with no history or afinity of the local area. In other words rural towns are full of "townies", some with massive pensions etc, while locals have become second class citizens working for peanuts and getting nowhere in life generally. Other reasons are estate agents inflating house prices for their commission purposes, and too many " move to the country" programmes on TV. The countryside is turning into playground to stop the fat man the city from having a heart attack, the local characters are becoming a distant memory. End or rant.
  6. To much hassle finding the right trailer, also you would still need a JCB or similar to lift the logs onto the trailer.
  7. Yes leave them there, more hassle than its worth, especially now in the wet weather, you'll have ruts everywhere, and a total mudbath.
  8. Sold DF pole lenght logs 24feet to 48foot, topped at a min of 12 inches, for making log cabins 3 years ago for £50 tonne including haulage of £7 tonne,I'd want £60 tonne now though.
  9. Tie the butt end to the skidders butt plate, then get a JCB with some chains to lift up the smaller end and proceed slowly up the road.
  10. Why don't you leave the tractor in the wood you are working in? Where we are in remote wales, i wouldn't dream of paying someone for their shed, it would take me a good hour to get to the nearest farm. do you really need to be paying for shed, its dead money, are vandals that bad in your neck of the wood? i'd be looking to hide the tractor in the wood somewhere at weeknights, then park it on a farm over weekends. i also advise to buy your own tank, be independant.
  11. It sounds that you are halfway there with what you have said so far:biggrin: what you'll get is people bantering you down with the price. You need to combine your chipper business with other kinds of work though, to help you through quieter times, good luck.
  12. The problem you will have is having enough work for the chipper, i mean regular work,...... are you able to fix it yourself if you have a breakdown? also how are you going to transport it around?
  13. yes the old HB 2510 i think.

    cramp

Hope you haven't got the dreaded white finger.
  15. I had the county 1164 james jones conversion with a 6 tonne trailer behind, it was ok for forwarding on easy ground or along rides or tracks, but very cumbersum for turning in tight spaces, no good for up hill forwarding at all, then i sold that and bought a valmet 820 forwarder, what a transformation, i could go everywhere i liked with tracks and chains on, output more than doubled, warm and dry with radio on, i thought i hit the big time ,lol. but i still hold a soft spot for county's
  16. These tractors with cranes on are ok on reasonable ground, but any sort of steep or rough terrain forget it. too unstable
  17. Most of the civil servants that i know don't take financial risks or even get their hands dirty, thats why they take the easy way out and work for the government, in other words neither use nor ornamant, Luftwaffe always one for free spirits.
  18. He's 100% right, What a soft society we live in, we can't even say what we like anymore about common sense events. How about all of us been wrapped up in cotton wool and wearing flouresent waistcoats lying in bed all day watching Jeremy Kyle, is that what they want? What a fecking country Eh? They are reducing us to zombies, taking away our freedom of thought. AAAAARRGHHHH !!!
  19. So sad to see so many young people posting their plight over their vehicle insurances etc, equally sad to see people posting "willing to work for free to gain experience" its like going back to the 30's. what strange times we live in.:thumbdown
  20. Very good job, but one thing? the breaker bar, what use would that be on a tree of that size?

  22. If you google "interactive Investor" "Beowulf mining discuss", you will see it. go back the the last 8-10 pages, "Taz devil is back" is on form, the guy is a genius, but with a scathing personality. He rips people to shreds.
  23. well said grandad, you've hit the nail on the head.
  24. Believe me folks what i've seen on here pales into insignificance when compared to stocks and shares forum "Interactive Investor", where there can be upto a 100,000 posts a day over about 1500 different stocks, things can get a bit nasty when people are losing their money, Anyone else here read that site?
  25. I always pullover if i can. don't really like driving the tractor on the main roads, keep having this feeling i'm going to breakdown, hasn't happened yet though.
