  1. Can you run a 3/8 sprocket off the 560?
  2. Another simple but regular mistake people take when averaging weight to hectare is taking into account of the roads-rides in the plantation, Ive seen many woods especially smaller woods with good roads take up quite a percentage of the woods acreage thus lowering the plantations weight to hecterage.
  3. A plantation of 40 year old sitka should yield the owner approx 350 ton per hectare (2.4 acres to the hectare), this is taken with the average tree size of 0.38m tree size, but it all depends on the site etc, if the site is at a high altitude ( over 1600 feet) it is likely that the yield will be significantly lower, also take into account has the wood been thinned, and when.
  4. No the lever doesn't come to a sudden stop so to speak, it just goes very tight from pulling on the lever against the cam, but with less power coming out of the winch than what it used to do, cant post pics now as its all assemled, wont have time for a week or 2 to strip it down again. cheers.
  5. Th winch is pulling in just as normal, it is not hydraulic it is manually operted by puling on a lever which pushes against a cam which pushes the clutch against the pressure plate, so the harder you pull on the lever the more power the winch has, there is also a sprocket that is linked to the tractor pto via a drive chain, maybe the pto pack is on its way out........... but its bloody annoying , i know that.
  6. Hello Winchman, Just the man!! Iv'e got a igland 5000 winch on the back of the county, I bought the winch new about 15 years ago, in that time it has not done that much work, as i use a bigger skidder mainly, the problem is i'm down on pulling power on both sides, i've had the cluthes relined and put back together, fully adjusted the adjustment on the clutches but it seems no better than before, I would say its only pulling about 60 to 70% of what it should be doing, any ideas? Oh, and welcome.
  7. Why not? all good mother inlaws do it these days, didn't you know. these people up in the northwest........ I dont know. what are you like?
  8. You certainly know how to charge.
  9. The reason most sawmils don't take small amounts of timber off people is it not worth their time to set up contracts for small quantities, coupled with that is the certification needed to source whether the timber has been certified or not, also throw in other concerns as nails in the timber, straightness, butt rot, knotty timber, and so on..... Its a bit like turning up at tesco's with the produce from your garden... if you see what I mean.
  10. Too big and heavy to fit on a tractor, thats a lorry crane. possibly 25 year old.

  18. Can't help notice that a lot of people here have dogs as guard dogs, is crime a real problem for some of you, I'm very lucky in that respect living where i do, I don't even take the keys out of the vehicles at night, or even lock the house doors hardly ever, only if we go on holiday.
  19. Don't p-ss about talking about it, get on with it or it will be down on your building, there is very little holding it up, get a winch with serious pulling power "10 tonne+", put the rope up 2/3 the tree and pull it over in one go allowing plenty of distance between tractor-winch and the tip of the tree, don't bother with fergie's or 4x4 trucks they will be just be spinning and getting nowhere, brute force is the order of the day here, get it done as quick as you can ...... also you can put a pulley up a tree about 20foot up to make the pull level, that make it easier on the winch, as the winch then is not pulling into the ground so much, if you see what i mean. good luck.
  20. I doubt a dealer will give a stranger an account, unless they know each other.
