  1. Hi. you must pass through the Coe regulary inbetween Glasgow and Glen Sheil ?
  2. Thats right Woodworks, its a place like no other, i could just sit there all day and admire, and i'm no stranger to the great outdoors, but i have to admit it was a hard day doing Bidean, i forgot to take a drink with me as setting off and remember eating snow to quench my thirst on top and that that was in May.
  3. For me its got to be Glencoe in the Highlands, been there many times and never get fed up with it. So atmospheric to be hemmed in between moutains of 3500 ft on both sides. I hope to take my son there to do climb Bidean Nam Bean with me later this year as i did it on my first visit in 1988. Finest scenery in Britain.
  4. I dont know much about the leavers you have shown, have you tried V M D spare parts in Sweden? they are pretty good and know their stuff and speak English, ask to speak to Mike Schultz.
  5. Hi Nick, so sorry to hear your bad news and i sympathise with your predicament, .. it looks like the early part of january will be quiet for me, so in that respect i could come and lend a hand, fully experienced in forestry, ( 30 ) years, on winching, felling and forwarding, both hard and softwood. So if interested PM me .. Cheers. PS, i have the relevant tickets..
  6. Ok. .. sorry i should have said husky chainsaw 2 stroke.
  7. Hello chaps, , just a quick question to those that might know.. Can i run my KTM 200 bike on husky 2 stroke oil as i am out of the putoline oil i normally run it on. As i fancy a day on the bike tommorrow. PS . The bike is water cooled.
  8. Just spare a thought for those soldiers who fought on the Eastern front in the war , -40 and sleeping outside for months on end with little food and someone trying to kill you, whenever i am cold it pales into insignificance to what these men went through. Just imagine your eyelids dropping off or genitals falling apart as gangrene sets in your fingers and toes, doesnt bare thinking about.
  9. Personally i never wear gloves, never think to take any with me, makes my fingers feel all thick and clumsy, but i do like to wear about 5 layers of clothing on cold days, .. but i have always been puzzled by lorry drivers stepping out of the cab ready to put gloves on even in summer time, and its not like they are going to do anything to get dirty as all loading is done by timber crane, its like getting out of you car to open your front door, and they all seem to do it. Why.
  10. Its like something out of the wicker man !!!
  11. Is the harvester struggling to get up the bank? Larch brash is next to useless for traction. Couldnt you winch the harvester up and then harvest on the downhill so to speak to save on the saw work?
  12. My plan of attack would be to arrange with a friend of mine who's a farmer to come and collect the whole tree with a couple of tractors and trailers ( one with loader ). The timber is their payment for firewood, for which they need, all i have to do is get the county and winch there to put slight tension on the tree as felling it with a thick back hinge in a controlled manner, once the tree is down it is cross cut into 8' lenghs and loaded into the trailers, so my efforts will take me 2 hours max, the removal of the tree is their part. No fuss no bother and very little costs involved, my price £800. No need for chippers either as i said they will take the whole tree. All this is agreed with all parties before hand,
  13. My background is forestry, so from my point of view i'd expect people to fell and sned about thirty to forty of these size of trees per day, ofcourse this is differnt owing to the clean up etc, but i know what you mean regarding personal circumstances. But with good planning this tree would be history rather quickly.
  14. I wouldn't call felling one tree a big job.
  15. You reckon!! Continueous work on a hillsde is bad for your joints, we are static skidding 1m sitka spruce up a steep ravine about 80 metres down under the road to the landing where the trees are put through the harvester, most our work is like this,.
  16. Good pics, ... look at that lovely flat ground, must be nice to work on the flat.:cursing:
  17. Hi jon, having driven both counties and valmets counties in the wood I have to say that when it comes to traction and grip the county wins hands down also more stable for going across slopes too, where the valmet wins is slighty higher ground clearence for going over stumps, steering lock is brilliant too, valmet have far more comfort and better modern engines which are responsive when needed, but as I say give me a county anyday for the steep rough ground.
  18. How much difference in quality is there between genuine huskvarna parts and a meteor, what I'm trying to say is can meteor take the daily hammering that the original engine does?
  19. Very wet and misersble here in the middle of Wales, but not cold, just having a bite to eat and whole body is steaming with dampness,
  20. Stand at the back of the tractor and have a look to see if a round plug in type electrical fitting has come out from its place, there is a yellow wire leading into it, if this come out the pto wont work, its situated at the bottom of the back window.
  21. Aye I know what you mean Jon, regional variations of prices is a big factor,
  22. Which of your two dogs is eating the other one?
  23. Good man, thats the way, have a variation of quality and prices to match, and not just the one spec,
