  1. Hi jon, don't put yourself down, the stock market is available to everyone, you gain the same gains as any hedge fund that operates in the square mile, and its so easy to by shares in this day and age, only takes about 1 minute or less and costs as low as £5.
  2. Only a fool would right off Tesco, their share price has risen over 40% in the last 2 months. Good money has been made by some.
  3. What you are trying to say is you're Saxon and Norman invaders i pressume, .. as for too busy running the county i'd think it best to keep quiet about that have you seen the UK debt clock recently,
  4. Considering us boyo's from the land of water and mountains have only 3 million population to choose from as apposed to you sasenacs who have 50 million to choose from it should be a non contest really. 13 - 5 ...there's lovely...
  5. Spud is on the right lines here, making money from business - working is one thing but the other part is what to do with the money after you have it. What are most people going to do for money when they are too old to do manual work? But it has to be said that the FTSE 100 is range bound, meaning that it is a vehicle for day traders taking small but regular profits, just look at the share charts of the company's that make up the FTSE 100 and FTSE 250, the brokerage platforms encourage day trading as thats how they make their money, the more buys and sells that they get the more they make, as apposed to the buy and hold invester who holds on to his shares through thick and thin for years, some people i know buy and sell shares in the same company many times a day, i couldnt believe it at first but its true, al they do is look at screens flashing red and green on their laptop all day everyday,.
  6. Thats looks like a highland bear 2510, we used to have a couple of them mounted on the county ,used 46 hydraulic oil .
  7. Ferocious winds this morning mixed with hail, working up on top of a hill 1600feet high, difficult to breath at one point, but eased off a bit this afternoon,
  8. Yeah thanks geoff, ligaments take 6 times longer to heal than muscles, its the longest injury i've ever had, its a proper bar steward...hope you get better soon .
  9. Hi chaps. .having injured my left shoulder back last summer and having physio my shoulder is not much better, specialist recommended having a MRI scan which i had and showed up i had part torn my supraspinatus ligament at the top of my shoulder which has healed but healed with scar tissue which means it is lumpy and bumpy.. so the pain i am having especially when i move my arm outside ways is the healed ligament is rubbing on the lower part of the acronium which is inflaming the whole area giving pain in shoulder blades and down my arm. Is this what others are experiencing, also lack power, cant sleep on that shoulder and cant throw anything with any power? Working is difficult and makes me feel not wanting to bother. Surgeon was quite vague when i mentioned pain in other parts of the shoulder just its all linked to the ligament in question. Anyway having the operation to smooth the tendon and shave a bit off the acronium to make space to allow free movement, 6 weeks off till i work again. Is this correct.
  10. All depends on how far the haulage is, £35 - £45 seems more in keeping.
  11. Hi peat. As finishing cutting i sometimes dig the chain in or on the log to slow the chain down if i need to, if the chain is of the correct tension the chain shouldn'd be spinning much anyway, if i was to put the chain brake on everytime i stop cutting or pull the saw out of the tree i would be activating the chainbrake about 500 times a day at a rough estimate, as for a stick or branch activating the throttle you should have a dead man throtlle lock on top of your back handle, ..professional saw users are always very aware of their immediate surroundings and usually react with quick reflexes a bit like a rally driver does because thats how the make their money on a piece work basis.
  12. Been doing it pushing thirty years since i left school . Just a productive as when i was 25 but to be honest it bores me more than it used to, plus the avhes and pains seems to last longer than more as time goes by.
  13. Yeah i know what you mean, makes it hard going if your working on the downhill, sore on the back... young mans game. Keep at it,
  14. What are you doing one in four? Felling for the skidder or forwarder?
  15. Too true.. any production cutter worth his salt who knows what he is doing doesn't putt the brake on, .. the ones that put the brake on are hobby users or or the people cutting there own firewood with usually a blunt 35cc saw. But if it keeps safe let them carry on.
  16. What is the reason people keep putting the brake on so often? Is it lack of confidence or what, or is it that what they are told to do, myself i never put it on, only time it comes on is when kick back occurs, slamming the brake on is like driving flat out and pulling up the handbrake which locks up the whole mechanism, if i want to slow down or stop the chain i gently dig the saw into the the tree.
  17. But why are we here? Is TV that crap that we seek entertaiment somewhere else, IE here.thank god we talk about other things than trees and chainsaws, afterall theres only so much that can be said about it.
  18. What you mean the Old Firm derby!!
  19. It would be easier and quicker to list the things that i deem aren't are not waste of time.
  20. Its not all about cutting, sometimes there is a long walk of half a mile over stumps and brash up a steep hill before you start a saw, with your saw, can, and food bag it takes time to get there, how much gets cut depends on tree size, terrain, weather and fitness and work ethic of the indevidual,
  21. Not really Jon, its difficult to quantify paying by the ton, too many variables at play, sometimes the timber thats been cut dont get forwarded for a long time after its been cut, and how would it be weighed anyway, any shirker not pulling their weight is soon found out and doesnt last long, anyway its a small world in forestry and people know who to trust,
  22. Yep, thats about right. When i'm cutting off my own and winching i use about 4 tanks in a day , rates around Wales and the Borders are £20 hour, but you have to shift to get that,
  23. You must have hole in your tank to be going through 15 tanks in a 8 hour day doing normal foreatry work, i get about 35 minutes to the tank felling outsiders with my 560 and get through 8 tanks a day, in 2m trees roughly about 20 ton a day. The omly way i hhave gone through more more fuel in the same time span is ringing up big hardwood buts where the saw is working hard constantly which comes to 12 to 13 tanks,
  24. Hi Tim, yes Torridon indeed, another great place of moutain grandeur, what a sight to behold looking at Liagach from across the glen.
