  1. Where did you get the quote from? Seems high to me, would be interesting to get a bit more info on that statistic.
  2. That slammer looks like a great product, just got to find one in this country now.
  3. How about creosote treated, we used them 3-4 years ago so too soon to be sure but it is a time tested treatment. Available from Batsford Timber in Wiltshire. chestnut would look a LOT better though.

    Husky 254 question

Thanks for all the replies so far I did get hold of a plastic side cover a while back and cut the lugs off, it still doesn't fit too well but more importantly the clutch is a different size so the chainbrake still wouldn't work. Bob, if you happen to have a spare lying around it would be really handy. Spud, I can get the part number from the cover, anywhere online with parts lists at all? Stubby, unlike you I've only ever seen/owned 254's with plastic covers, still a great saw wish I had never sold mine.
  5. Take the other stuff out first
  6. Hi all Got given a 254xp back last summer, supposedly a non runner but I got it started straight away with a bit of fresh fuel. Anyway it needs a new chainbrake, clutch spring and a couple of other bits. The problem I've got is the clutch cover is metal instead of the usual plastic. I've tried standard 254 bits and they don't fit, I even bought a whole clutch cover/brake assembly on ebay and it doesn't fit. Can anybody tell what this saw is and the best way to scource the parts for it. i.d. plate Clutch cover part number Clutch cover Forgot to say, the top cover and flywheel cover are both plastic.

    Free light!

Great idea, they say the best ideas are the simplest.
  8. Rob - You forgot to mention your quick delivery and excellent communications So I thought I would :thumbup1:
  9. As far as I'm concerned the only use for barb is to give cattle something to scratch their necks on. Good quality TIGHT high tensile plain wire is just as good on top of a netting fence. Only problem with this advise is animal rights may come along and say you are depriving cows of their scratching post. As from sheep getting stuck in netting, easy, just use 8/80/30 instead of the more common 8/80/15, end of problem. Bob (worked on sheep/cattle farms for 20 years, contract fencer for 7)
  10. I moved up 3 years ago from the Somerset/Devon border to the Isle of Mull, best thing I ever did! Listen to the wife, you know she'll win in the end.
  11. Fiskars X27 from Amazon.com, £51 including delivery and import tax etc arrived in 4 days from America to Isle of Mull in Scotland. Great Axe
  12. Same here, really good service.
  13. Hope you heal quick. Fair play on getting the pics posted here within 2 hours of surgery!
  14. Screw an old car tyre to the top of your splitting block, saves you having to chase the part split logs around. This should explain it better Log Splitting using a car tyre. - YouTube I would keep my block further away from the building than this bloke so I could just walk around the splitting block.
  15. Yes. Also faster especially if you put a tyre on your splitting block. But you do have to swing an axe rather than pull a lever.
  16. 4.5 meter ladder for my alaskan mill. how sad am I?
  17. Happy Christmas Spud Thanks a bunch for the Isle of Mull saw. Do we get an update tomorrow or are you finally taking a day off. Bob
  18. Surely this is a safer option METAL CHAINSAW LOG SAW HORSE WITH HOLDER Never used one though
  19. Keith That sounds wrong on so many levels! Bob
  20. Great video and great timing too. Watched this last night and it got me thinking about getting an Alaskan again. (Had to put the idea on the back burner when the big end went in my MS650) Found one on flea bay second hand, just won it now. Will certainly be in touch about a mini mill. Bob
  21. You all need to get one of these! Mine turned up today (4 days from USA to Scottish Island!) I split 2 rings and then let the other half have a go, she then went on to fill the wood shed This axe makes splitting even easier than I thought it would, I don't even have to pick it up and the sheds full Bob
  22. Thanks for that Rover Had looked at Amazon.com but have always been unsure about buying from the states due to nasty import surprises. Didn't realise Amazon took care of it for you. Ordered mine yesterday, think you were right with the "kids" comment as thats just how I feel, a big kid who can't wait for his new toy to arrive! BTW total cost was £51.17 inc delivery and import tax. Actual cost of the axe works out at £30.02 so how come they cost £100 more in this country?
  23. Can you put up a link for this (or pm me) as I have been looking but can't find one for that price Bob
  24. PM sent

    MS 650 big end

Quick update on this. Stripped and rebuilt the saw today, seems to run fine but haven't had time to put it in any wood yet. Thanks for all the advise, it really helped. Good fun doing a full strip down and rebuild, was covered in black gunk in those normally inaccesable areas like behind the clutch.
