  4. I'll be buying size 5 chainsaw boots, 2010 I had to order a pair as none on stand.
  5. Had a customer today who has a clearview that takes 15" logs sideways, she is burning my 15-20% firewood, and had used short 10" logs I sold her (she didnt ask for 15"). Anyway she said her stove was not getting very hot and could it be the logs where not the longer ones as recommended that go accross stove and you bring forward and stack new logs at back as brochure instructed! i really was not sure, normally really dry logs just burn hot and fast! We are going to take her some 15" logs so she can try them. I have another clearview stove owner who changed to 15" logs, and he seems to think it made a difference.
  6. We'll call by!
  7. Hi from Kielder forest, yes its a great forum. Our work can be in isolated places, we dont get to meet many other arborists while out working ( or any people at all!) if you hav'nt got anyone to ask, advice etc, there are always loads of people who will offer it for free, on any subject, or just have a moan about prices, customers etc or complain about the weather. One thing is always obvious, most of us love our work, and would'nt be doing anything else !
  8. and vat reclaimed, had'nt thought of that....
  9. I know, it was Sunday and they were closed, thought it may be something easy to do and we were not sure wether to try or not,(its new) still; got about 18-20 metres of logs split before it started raining again!
  10. I am always worried I'm not charging enough, but seem to have ok finances and thats the only way I can tell!
  11. Anyone used to this machine out there? Finding the foot pedal is not operating ram all the way once machine warmed up, is it easy to adjust? the lever that you can use as well is awkward to use and if the foot pedal worked the splitting ram it would be easier on the operator. (thanks for looking at this)
  12. It is not just £10/30 miles, but the amount I include in the log price as well, the £10 is an extra amount on top
  13. I've worked out my fuel cost last week at 30p mile pulling 3 m logs in an L200 mitsibushi + trailer. I generally deliver free up to 20 miles as I assume a % of price is for fuel /time. Over 20 miles I do charge extra and never get any complaints (up to 30 miles and extra £10)
  14. Amazed at speed of result here! Thanks
  15. (From 'A wife'!) I got all NPTC's ie CS 31/32/38/39 etc and go out and do the FC contracts involving chainsaw work, with my husband, has been a great experience and means we get work on our doorstep as we live in Kielder Forest. He had often worked alone for many years, but I think out here where there is not even a mobile signal or another human within miles it is a good idea!
  16. Anyone out there able to help out? dont seem to be able to find much on internet and I need a 'pollution plan' asap No one answered this in 2011, so trying again!
  17. Sorry guys, I think I accidently posted this on wrong thread! Just to comment on thread: If you put your saw in your boots as often as my work colleage does you would definately not want to work without a pair, also I have seen what a saw can do to human flesh, so would not consider working without a pair.
  18. Why am I looking at Arbtalk? have 13 loads of logs to deliver on my own, my delivery help has dissapeared off to France for 5 weeks working on 'Demontage' (taking tents down on campsite) and I am not feeling at all motivated! Best be off and get on with it...
  19. Exellent result!
  20. We have both, I prefer Husky, husband the Sthil,( sometimes we use whatever is nearest!) both very good, but I hate the filler caps on the sthil, and find the husky easier to start.
  21. Ours are pathetic too, normally get a heavy crop and this year a few flowers have only just appeared, several lots just got demolished by slugs!
  22. Hi Ross, dont need any right now. Have all you sold us early in year cut up and it is looking good!
  23. Firewood sales steady, it's been an average summer, around 20-25 loads a month from May-August, expect things to get busy around September.
  24. This is what local Jappa distributor said to me, (just fitted a sharpened blade the other day, its a left hand thread which you know " the nut can get a bit tight, use a spanner socket, tap with a hammer to shock it, and it should come loose", sounds like thats what others have said, but these guys are supposed to be trained Jappa mechanics, so I just added it to everyone elses advice! Hope you've got it sorted by now anyway,
