  1. Please dont advertise your logs as a 1tonne bag! you would have some freshly dug bog oak in the bags if it weighed that much! Builders bags are either 0.6 or 0.75 metre cube as previously stated. I sell a 1.5 cubic metre truck load and it fits into 2 x 0.75 bags (1.5 metres) that a customer leaves me to fill.
  2. Several People asking a lot more than that in this neck of the woods past few months, more like £50 tonne + £10 haulage for 25 tonnes load...
  3. Managed to process nearly 50m3 softwood on new PoschS280 over 2 days, 'Log sheds emptying too fast' stress over for a week or 2...
  4. YEARS ago... customers thought Silver birch was 2nd grade or = to Softwood. Nowadays its just 'hardwood'( it is excellent firewood, fast growing and easy to process). Last year a customer bought and paid for 3m mixed logs, and only wanted the softwood as it looked 'neater' in his logstore (very posh house). He politely asked me to take the hardwood away, and keep the money (£110)! There was nothing wrong with it expept not as even shaped as the softwood.
  5. We run ours on red diesel,( house/building electricity when renewables have no sun/wind for over 2-3 days) interested to hear any alternatives...
  6. It took me ages to work out how to start a thread Steve!
  7. Bur Jappa 700 was a good starting point, it earned us enough dosh to buy the Posch!
  8. It was sorted very fast, wilsons sent someone out, the foot pedal setting was wrong and was not operating correctly, its fine now! and you have to bring the blade down exactly right otherwise it jammed in the log, pretty scary! now we are used to it it is not happening any more. small bits jam down at the bottom of elevator, stopping it moving. thats all I can think of right now, nothing major!
  9. Thats out of order! Had someone pretending to be me a few weeks ago (I'm female with glasses and blonde hair!) He may have looked like me but I have not spotted any other lady log delivery trucks around here, ( I have met them in other parts of UK) Also someone under cutting my price by £1 /M3 but failing to mention a £6 m3 delivery charge!
  10. Yes thats what we moved onto, could not afford one when we started out! We process mainly 3 meter lengths softwood, and the Jappa has been fine, we used it without a deck, and only cut cordwood if it is too heavy to lift on (mainly hardwood!)
  11. I have just put my JAPPA 700 up for sale. It was/is an exellent machine for starting off the business, but we needed a bigger machine due to increasing log sales! It is 3 yrs old serviced new belts and sharpened blade £3K + Vat, based in Northumberland. No machine is perfect for every type of log you want to process, the jappa is good with small stuff up to 8". Our new machine (posch) has several problems we found within a couple of hours, and it is not as fast as the jappa, but has an automatic feed which helps the operator!Whatever machine you buy will be better at some types/sizes of timber than others
  12. woops! I thought I had looked at date, never mind, glad you got it sorted! Anyone want to buy a good machine let me know...its just been put up for sale as we have replaced it with a larger machine.
  13. Did you sort out your processer,? I'm selling a Jappa 700, 3 yrs old serviced etc. Bought a bigger machine as business expanding, looking for around £3000 + Vat, (Wilsons told me it was worth around £4k)
  14. I have a Jappa 700 for sale, 3 years old, (replaced with a bigger machine) runs on the PTO of small leyland tractor. Good nick and new belts/sharpened blade. £3000+ VAT (I prefer a circular blade, less wastage on timber and less sawdust!)
  15. If you are seriously interested, we can be emailed via our web site. (Warkforestlandscapes). Tim is looking for help with several sites, he can have a chat and see if its something you would be interested in, we get paid on £/hectare rate, or a day rate depending where it is. Have sites to do over the border in Kershope and some nearer us at Blackaburn. This is so opposite to urban back gardens! No people, wet, often cold and hard work on difficult terrain, but beautiful locations !
  16. Got loads of regen clearance contracts to do, if you have NPTC's (chainsaw) you are always welcome to join us!
  17. You do a mental assesment of health and safety on trees you are driving past, and remember your routes by the 'Ash with a large Inonotus hispidus bracket', the Oak with massive 'hanger' in crown, the Beech that looks like it's on the way out, (nice bit of firewood!), that cherry that someone has massacred!...(who did that..)
  18. Beautifull, I visited some sites of 'largest' trees in Scotland last year, saw some of the most massive trees I'd ever seen!
  19. Found this today on 'Elveden Estates' FB page, (they employ Tim/husband/business partner) as part of the 'Christmas Tree Felling team' in Kielder during November.
  20. Every week 'New log burner' owners phone for a dry log supplier (& for past 3 years!), New stove shops still opening in town (must be at least 3 now). I would like to know how many stoves there are to supply, not forgetting all the wood boilers and chip boilers. Where is this extra firewood supposed to be coming from? Have priced and won work to thin 2 neglected woods this winter, but I dont think it is worth doing unless the price of logs increases (also I buy timber in bulk.) as soon as you employ staff to work there is no profit in this business.
  21. Done the 'cache' thing, whatever that is and it solved problem, but why, I shall never know!
  22. Really nice work!
  23. Arb talk stopped redirecting to 'Steph'when I logged in as from yesterday, goes to steph when I look at forum
  24. Thanks for the good tips on this thread, I have to admit to using alcohol before now to clean ropes (emergency measure as that was all we had on site and ropes completely gunked up!) can never get the stuff off clothing eg chainsaw trousers/fleeces even in the washing machine, but will try some of the things mentioned here...
  25. Just checked this thread after finding it a week or so ago and it seems to have changed direction! Sick of people joking me about how much firewood we will have soon (Ash), we remember all the Elm only too well and it was not funny at the time!
