1. Thought I'd missed it! have been very ill for past week and hibernating...has it stopped raining out there yet?
2. All finished here as well, I've not answered phone for past 2 weeks as I cant deal with all the emotional blackmail from people who cant organise their lives and stock up early!
3. I've been getting 12 metres a day out and cant wait for Christmas holidays & seeing my family, absolutely knackered!(Ps.in case you think that sounds weedy, that is 12 metres handballed on and off my non-tipping truck and around half are stacked)
4. Quick look on this thread seems like everyone is the same, I cancelled local paper ads last week, no deliverys over 20miles for last 3 weeks, fully booked until Christmas and fending off the last minute pleading customers. Never been so busy in my life!!
5.
How do I find where to buy the t shirts steve?

6. For anyone out there who wont stack, we also hear the above comment a LOT! Tipped logs or bags left miles from house are no good to most people, especially an old lady or someone with a broken leg (yes I've seen it done), so stacking does get a lot of repeat business (but there are always the 'buy whatever is cheapest brigade who I cant be bothered with, they dont care if wood is green or dry or appreciate my lovely dry logs!). I've said this before butwe'd pile on pounds of weight in winter if I just sat on my backside and tipped, Stacking keeps us fit, makes the job more interesting and is good customer relations, I often pick up neighbours/passers by Log orders, tree work etc when we spend 15 minutes unloading / stacking.
7. I do the same, no problem for anyone who looks frail etc, but love the days its all chucked off! Have days (today) when I feel like saying 'your'e a healthy looking bloke, do it your self', like tonight when a blizzard hits as I arrive and the customer (young and healthy looking) says "oo its a bit cold out here, there's the wood shed, just give us a shout when you're finished!' and runs back indoors leaving me to unload!
8. That looks bad, hope you get it all sorted and insurance ok etc.
9. There is a Clearview Stove shop near me, I have delivered logs to lots of their new stove owners over past 3-4 years (all sizes of Clearview stove) and people are very happy with them. I definately would recommend them to anyone who asked. (and that is NOT because the shop owner recommends my logs! ) they seem to be very popular around here and I have not heard any negative feedback. Owners of larger stoves like a 15-18" log which they say is better that small logs, and the smallest stove only uses 10 logs a day!
10. Thanks for all the replies, was suprised! think we have sorted out some help for this week, and will keep phone numbers etc given to us in case more hands needed. Steph & Tim
11. £15 / day, and you will travel with us to sites & we provide fuel.
12. We are based at Blackaburn (next to TPH), work is all over Kielder at various sites.
13. Hi, we can pay £100/day, will call you later if interested
14. Quotes from my softwood customers this week include 'this has revolutionised our home' 'Best stuff ever bought', letter of thanks to the 'Cutter and delivery driver' etc, it is so underated!
15. Chainsaw operative(s) wanted. Sitka regen clearance/Kielder. Will be wet and cold work on rough terrain, good boots (2 pairs recommended) and waterproofs a must. Good opportunity for someone with CS30/31 (first aid qualifications an advantage) to get experience working on the ground cutting small sitka regeneration on SSI sites up to 15" in diameter. Due to remote location, bed and board is available if needed. Send a message if interested in discussing, need people for next week and there is quite a bit of work to do over next couple months.
16. It looks like a great improvement!
17. I choose to do the far away orders 1st thing in morning, then get nearer home by last 2 loads! (also the aim is to finish near a good pub).
18. Too low, (unless it is softwood?) should be looking at £70 + to recover costs
19. When you are vat registered you can claim back 20% on all delivery fuel, vehicle costs and new machines etc!
20. We are very happy with ours!
21. After looking at 'Rebel commando's' post, comercial Forestry is a pretty cut throat world on pricing now, FC often dont have enough contracters to tender for work, because the paper work is a nightmare and puts many off who used to do the work,H&S requirements and demand for so much certification is off the graph, and the prices put in on contracts are often unrealistic, are the workers getting paid any wages all? a sad state of affairs. I dont know how anyone running big machines makes a penny nowadays.
22. Hi Mendiplogs , I am keeping an eye on the fuel costs more than ever this year! Being very strict now about applying extra fuel charges on delivery for orders outside my set areas, checking mileage for every order now on sat nav. no complaints yet.
23. Yeah, see thread 'hows the log sales going', I love this time of year, seeing some cash going into the bank is a good feeling after all the hard slog of getting the firewood ready. By the way it grey and cold hear now, but dry.
24. Thats so true, talking to passers by when hedge trimming always gets more business, often you end up doing whole areas on a street, and return on an annual basis, which makes it easier for us. I suppose it helps if you are actually doing a good job as well!
25. Buisest year yet, sales more than doubled in October and were steady through summer. Done about same as Nick, good winter so far...
