  1. Sounds like you're sorted, my other half has a 261 and says his clutch springs are very easy to replace, the husky (my'n) on the other hand is another matter! I take it to a local place and they do it as it is easier! We argue a lot about which is the best, Husky or Sthill, but on this one I'd say the Sthill seems much easier to change clutch springs on and he is right!
  2. Planned a massive effort to process logs tomorrow, got extra help in for day and it looks like sunshine:) !!
  3. We have never had problems with paying when terms and conditions agreed, building industry/ County Councils/ Forestry commission will all agree 2 week terms and keep them if it is presented in writing, learnt this the hard way waiting ages in past
  4. Trying to, but the sitkas regen clearance contracts are needing to be done too! getting behind with logs, and orders still keep coming, managing do do about 12-14 loads a week whenever I'm not cutting sitka, and then there is the firewood processing to keep up with...!
  5. Total rubbish, deep slush, flooding and now heavy rain. Found myself in a flooding burn this morning (from snow melt), trying to fell a stupid stray Sitka, icy water up to middle and arms too, saved the saw and managed to cut the tree, they were mostly up to 15-18" today, spent the rest of time wading through deep snow more wet and got very cold feet. Tip of the day that worked was keeping a dry pair of gloves down front of jumper( as well as my first aid kit and loads of kitchen towel for nose) so I had some warm ones to change into when the ones I was wearing got freezing and wet!
  6. The programme made me feel sick, a load of hyped up 'Green speak' to pull the wool over everyones eyes, (they are only doing it for the subsidies and to satisfy some crazy EU directive).Did you see the size of those storage towers? one full of 'bio mass' lasted 3 weeks!! we could deforest Europe in a few years at that rate as Drax is not the only power station..
  7. Likewise, I keep my 'thankyou' letters to cheer me!
  8. 8-10" is what most people are happy with, loads of new stoves are tiny! A very small proportion of customers order 15" logs, but they often get through lots (3m3 every 2-3 weeks), but a lot of larger stove owners prefer to stack the logs front to back so like the shorter 8-10" size, I think it keeps the glass cleaner (thats what I was told)
  9. All sounds good, Is'nt it a good feeling when people appreciate your dry logs? dont you worry that you are almost out and your happy customers will go elsewhere? We sold logs all through last summer, sales were pretty constant April-August, then leapt to 5 X last years sales during September, took us by suprise! Log sales already exceeded the whole of last financial year a couple of weeks ago,( so many new wood burners?) Almost out hardwood, plenty of softwood left, but it is dry and seasoned and seems to be preferable to the half seasoned wet hardwood that is around, Around 20 metres already booked to go out this week, so I'm happy:biggrin:
  10. Had a go at processing firewood, running low! now it is snowing heavily! I have given up...
  11. Well and truly snowed in, over 1 mile deep stuff to drive thru before I even see a road, so NO Log deliveries going out from here today:thumbdown:
  12. White Out...
  13. Prefer working in snow thanks, you can keep your sweltering heat down under!
  14. Must be the only place in Uk with no snow today! cancelled good work to avoid the foretold white stuff, but ended up getting 12 metres of soft wood delivered so not a bad day after all...
  15. Clearing 100%, mostly SSI sites at the moment, all very wet sites. got a great contractor to work with us from a thread we put on arb talk, he has done a week so it cant be that bad!
  16. Hope you get some good response to this Mat, we had a great time working with you last year! shame so far away eh
  17. Sounds interesting, we have a 100 % renewable system
  18. A decent Head torch is a idea, we use them to unload/ load tools etc in dark. Also stacking those late pm log deliveries!
  19. Snowing here but not much
  20. Just home from Hexham and there is snow, no more please or we wont be able to work next week on Sitka Regen clearance!
  21. My computer has just started giving the'web attack message', using norton and firefox here, is there anything to worry about? it thinks its a serious threat!
  22. One of our friends who had climbed trees for funfor a few years did his NPTC 38/39 last year and got so much out of it, learnt loads of new stuff and now enjoys climbing even more! I'm sure he would recommend doing some proper training.
  23. Never heard that one! maybe its why we seem to get more than our fair share of work on Holly, no one else would do it..
  24. Oh, and a tiny bit of blue sky!
  25. Never change soil level around a tree, young or old, or damage roots, it will always harm a trees health or kill it.
