  1. Really love the videos, good team work!
  2. Very proud of my son! Well done Matt & everyone who helped, we loved the photo's & the T Shirts!
  3. Hope you get a decent break in weather Mat, and the job goes well, and all enjoy the experience, maybe we can see some photo's? We have 4 ex-military/police staying who are taking part in the 'Cheviot 2012' challenge today, 4am, weather here was really foul when they set off for a 7am start at Wooller.
  4. Both cheap, I'd be tempted to go for birch as it seasons quicker, easier to process. I avoid Oak as it takes so long to season, but that is a GOOD price!
  5. Completely agree with you Chris, I'm not interested in anyone who wants a cheap job, and it is tragic to see what can be done to butcher a tree, and if you have the pleasure (not!) of working on it years down the line it is a nightmare to try and get the tree to look respectable, at the end of the day you get what you pay for. There seems to be no interest whatsover from the arb officers in NE to any sub standard work, they neglect the roadside trees and fail to enforce law that could get landowners to look after roadside trees that are in dangerous states of decay and neglect.
  6. Its not easy to get people to pay those prices in the NE! (have worked in north and south) How many are working for that price? If we (2 of us) do a job in 2 days and charge £650, 4- could do it in 1 day, I suppose, so your price is about the same.
  7. We installed an esse a few years ago, not one regret! love cooking on it, so easy after the oil range that guzzled oil and never got hot enough. Does hot water too, and keeps the kitchen warm. I burn almost 100% softwood around 10-15% moisture, and it is easy and clean to look after, almost no ash.
  8. I can spend days / weeks trudging over conifer brash if we are spraying or brashing, it is tough on your boots and they are often under water. Chainsaw wellys can get lost/sucked off your feet in bogs and wet holes. My boots at the moment are Lavoro, they are very comfortable boots, and have been reasonably waterproof in wet weather and snow, (I wear gaiters/waterproofs in very wet conditions.) They were also were cheap, AND Class 3 protection. I recommend them and would buy another pair.
  9. Are we getting free T.shirts??
  10. Thanks!
  11. South East part of Kielder forest, so some of our work is for FC in Kielder, but we get around most of Northumberland except the coast areas & Newcastle. Have no desire to work in City / large towns again after 20 years in North Herts
  12. Do people pay more money to employ you with AA approval? we never bothered, always lots of work, and people know if you are any good, the word gets around.
  13. Oh yes, I forgot, there were several others to do as well as the Sycamore, an oak and an ash? The Sycamore is looking healthy this year, you did a good reduction.
  14. Ours is Wark Forest Landscapes | Tree Surgery Hexham/Tree Surgeon/Firewood Logs/Firewood/Tree Surgeons Northumberland/Tree Work/Tree Pruning, its ok, but needs some updating. seem to get the work/firewood sales though, so thats the main thing
  15. Was supposed to be in last year so was a suprise to see it. Ed wanted to write our business history, how can you condense 25 years work into 2 pages?
  16. Just found an story called 'Partnership Working' in May Journal about history of our Arb business history over last 25 years. Weird to see yourself in print!
  17. Working for FC we have to have a large bottle in kit, the sterle saline solution would be ok. the small ones are not really adequate for a good wash out if the injury was serious. We have had 2 visits to docs this year already, and needed antibiotics for scratches that got very painful, now trying to wear better eye protection at all times!!
  18. Good week, new customers, repeat orders and plenty of sales, must be this cold weather, feels more like autumn than spring.
  19. We are wearing 'Harke' at the moment, I find them a bit too warm, but my husband loves his and hardly ever takes it off, even when climbing!!!
  20. In complete agreement with above. Had a customer with wood heating boiler, the computerised heat sensor in flue clearly always said the soft wood (15%) gave out much more heat than hardwood. so he said it was an obvious choice to buy softwood, it does burns a bit faster but is a lot cheaper, and is certainly never burns 'colder' on our stoves.
  21. Start puting roof on new pole barn tomorrow, building needed for extra log storage. Weather looks rubbish, but will have to get it done as we kept week free to do this!
  22. Thats a good idea!
  23. Its time to fell, trees, process and fill barns up for next winter! though I've found last 2 years April - June can be steady, picks up big time in September. Try and pick up customers now who buy logs all year round and find that most people have stopped selling dry firewood by now, and the ones that like to fill up their sheds/log stores in summer
  24. Yes, how do other people deal with all the crap that comes off the processor if they go straight into bags? We conveyor into a vehicle then unload into sheds, there is always bark sawdust and wood splinters etc, I would never deliver this to my customers!
  25. That sort of answers my question! dont think we will be buying any. I suppose if you put them indoors they would be better in terms of UV damage. I was going to use them for same reason as you: I thought our logs would season quicker outside. Not all our barns are very well ventelated, and hardwood can get mouldy! Thanks for your good feedback.
