  1. Ordered a Haglof borer today, hoping it arrives before we plan to do the survey; At a School that was not convinced the trees needed work done on them , even though a lot of evidence to the contrary, we agreed to provide more evidence. Very unusual, schools normally just say 'yes' carry out all finding on the survey, even non priority work.
  2. Agree! although I dont think there is much diffenence on the actual work front exept better kit etc, it just all has to be risk assessed, method statemented etc, just a lot more paper work.
  3. Yes, our company worked through days and nights in '87, there was not much H&S then, a completely different era
  4. I use Yr & BBC too, YR often accurate, specially giving times of day rain due to fall in area we are working etc and amount, plus wind etc.
  5. Sussex West Assessment Centre Chichester College Brinsbury Campus North Heath Pulborough West Sussex RH20 1DL Tel: 01798 877405 Email: [email protected] Web: West Sussex College - Chichester College
  6. Seems this is a universal problem, public are completely stupid and seem to be illiterate or need glasses! especially the ones with babies in buggies that are on mobile phones!!! I leave branches strategically placed so they 'cant' step into danger zone, and just have someone who is soley responsible for keeping area safe as well as the barrier tape etc.
  7. thanks, I looked at all the sites last night I could find selling Haglof and Mattson borers, and only 1 site offered 2 or 3 thread, Sorbus site says the 2 thread is best if you are doing both? I suppose I've just got to phone around instead of looking on shop sites to compare prices, only 1 site (sorbus) stated exactly the product was, ie 2 0r 3 thread, and the bore size, and that only of one brand, Haglof.
  8. I wrote an ISO 9001 quality system for a company c. 2007, and it was acceptable to auditor to say in the 'quality manual' we could look at the standard at the library (Newcastle) as we could not afford to buy one and keep on premises. All changes to regulations etc are reported on the internet so you can keep up to date.
  9. I do an occasional 'count', to check the load size is the same, there are approximately 240 loose logs per metre in my load, give or take a few because of varying sizes.
  10. Been looking at'Haglof', websites give different info on product eg' sizes and bore etc so confusing, not sure which one would suit testing fairly large hardwoods. Past experience found they often broke while using, so anyone got a borer they would recommend.
  11. July is my only quiet month, goes crazy after 1st September until May, then average 5-6 loads/wk through June/july/August unless it is cold, then it can be busier, the biggest problem is when to get all this firewood cut if it keeps selling..
  12. Hi, need to get a new increment borer asap. What would you recommend and where would I buy? Have owned a Mattson in past, but is there anything better out there now? Thanks
  13. Redwood uk 01794329080, TROUSERS AND SMOCKS X 2 WERE £250.
  14. We have 1 L200 with a timber inner, and fix greedy boards when needed for the chipper with screws. It works ok and get 600 KG of chip on a load (weighed in yesterday at green waste site!)
  15. Picking up lots of new orders and repeats are trying to order early before cold arrives!
  16. I use a Husky long reach 325 hedgetrimmer, (I am a woman, does that make a difference?) and do not find it a heavy machine to use, it is well balanced, the only problem I sometimes have is neck ache when reaching up for a long time.
  17. Think this is correct as we had an agricultural tie lifted on the basis that we had run an 'arb' business for 15(? cant remember exact time) years from yard, and it did not qualify as agricultural or forestry so as it had gone unchallenged for the time period law requires we legally could get tie removed.
  18. Went out in waterproofs after yesterdays soaking and no rain still at 2.50pm!

    Aldi again

Trying out the aldi cycing jackets (bright yellow) today in northumbrian rain, to wear while climbing/ ground work, seemed very similar to Stein version, they are waterproof and breathable and only £19.99.climber is dry after as wet morning, I have wet arms but that could be gloves 'wicking ' up long sleeved top I had on under jacket. Lighter and waterproof, better than the harkes we have.
  20. Dismantling 2 Sitka in Stonehaugh, with phone wires through crown (3)till lunch time, top handled saw got damaged, rain never stopped, now soaked through, wishing we had stayed at home or gone log delivering...
  21. Pretty Armchair, think it was 17th C, and a really old 'Captains Chair', the guy died not long after from cancer, we had done a lot of work for him in his garden over a few years.
  22. End of an 8 load day (8 x 1.5m3)! I used a tipping trailer for the 1st time today. After many years of handballing logs it was a moment of greatest exitement
  23. 'Elvedon Estates' based in norfolk do mature hedges ready to plant in sections.
  24. Quieter week for log orders than last, but I'm enjoying hedgecutting and going out on Tree work in this cooler weather, just pretending my 20 outstanding loads will somehow get done this week, and not too many new log orders come in! Getting regular queries way outside my delivery area, especially up on coast, who is doing good dry logs up near Whitley Bay that I can recommend?
