  1. I cant deny there are some people like that and some peoples attitudes to work are poor. But im not one of them! I enjoy work, take pride in my work, i work hard for the council and in my own time and I try to influence the people i work with.
  2. Thats a bit harsh! what did i say about dont tar everyone with the same brush!! how do you know what other people do at work? your just jumpin on the band wagon. I have to work seven days to pay my mortgage like any other man. You work for yourself because you choose to, more money your own boss good for you.
  3. that sounds alot to take all at once!! maybe it should be done in stages!!
  4. Really? Care to quote some references on that, or did you read it in the Daily Mail? Can you actually quote any average salaries for these jobs in private and public sectors? Not a personally directed comment, but there is a lot of rubbish talked, by a lot of people with no, or very little, knowledge, derived from biased sources. Well said Alec spot on!!
  5. All i can say is i know a few arborists and the ones with the readies dont work for the council.
  6. I think your right Rob, everything I can find points towards Alnus. It is suprisingly hard to make an id on leaf alone isnt it? What books do you use Rob? I have the owen johnson and use hilliers alot any others you recommend cheers matt.
  7. I am gonna stick my head out of the trenches here and say my bit! I work for a local council and I agree that some schemes dont always work out to be profitable projects but thats part of providing a service for the public rather than a running a profitable business. And yes there are, as with all companies people who work harder and do more than others. I have worked for private companies also and work as hard as the next man. It makes me laugh when I hear people saying council workers are lazy and over paid and should have there pensions altered and be made to pay more to get less.. what they need to remember is that the front line council workers are predominently low paid compared to those in the private sector, they are cards in, pay ALL their taxes dont get the chance to swindle- (you know what i mean- cash in hand- cash money-back pocket and all that!) and have signed up to a good pension as part of their employment, so why should they suffer just because the government has run the country into the ground. If working for the council is that good why dont you do it. What I am trying to say is dont tar everyone with the same brush! As for Clarkson, I think he is funny and entertaining one of the few left who says a few controversial things joking or not, some people need to grow up and realise there is more to life than scrutanising everything they hear. I am sure you let me know what you think about what ive just wrote.
  8. JUst off the top of my head I thought Tilia or Catalpa? more than likely wrong, but ill have a look in some books and see if i can find it. this is a great way to learn to id trees. what was the bark like?
  9. Go and buy yourself a copy of ' Manual of Wood Decays in Trees ' by Claus Mattheck and K Weber. It is an excellent book for you to START learning about fungi and trees.
  10. It looks like old fire damage to me.
  11. Such a shame, people dont take thier own lives when they are of sound mind and I cant imagine what he felt like to feel he needed to do this. Poor bloke, feel for his family.
  12. 110' up a poplar, plenty big enough for me thanks.
  13. Its funny how you think you will react if you catch someone stealing your property but when it does happen and the adrenalin is pumping it can be quite a shock. I caught some cheeky xxxx stealing the wheels off my wifes car one morning, I went into a serious panic initially and found it hard to even breeth as i tried to get dressed as fast as i could. I flew out the door like a man possesed and started strangling this guy trying to refrain from smashin head in the floor, when another car pulled up with some of his mates in, leaving me no option to let go of him while i ran in the house and picked up my axe from the side of the fire. The look on there faces as i ran out and got stuck into their car, smashin the windscreen and doing a lovely panel reshape job, they left very quickly never to be seen again. The police said that they frowned on what i had done and if i would of hurt anybody then i would be in trouble (typical). I laugh about it now but it was quite a shock at the time and i would sooner deter the theives than catch em in the act.
  14. I just tried to add my team but it says the code is not valid?
  15. I have used both methods but I prefare the rope prusik if I had to choose, Sometimes when you take your weight off the grab it opens and as you lean back you end up falling a bit. I have a grab on my flip line but I have had to put a rope/strap piece in which can be cut in an emegency, which i think is requirement?
  16. I agree with that, we have a 250 at work and im not a fan of it. not as well made and not as powerful for its size. Never come across a 240 yet. But the back handle 20 is a great little saw, excellent in the tree with the only down size being I over use it trying to cut bigger stuff than it should and when you have to use a 660 you think the end of the world has come.
  17. Sorry if this subject has already been brought up, but I was wondering what people's thoughts were on using the back handle version of the ms200 as opposed to the top handle saw? I personnally find that in most cases i feel alot more in 'control' (for want of a better word) and if chogging down small stems the back handle dosnt put as much pressure on your arms as you have more leverage. Obviously they are a bit longer and more cumbersome but you also have the option to use them on the ground. Anybody use them?
  18. Pies and prejudice - In search of the north by Stuart Maconie travel writing type of book, intresting especially if you are familiar with the north of England.
  19. Maybe you should be checking the spelling of 'grammar' Disclaimer: No offence meant! Only a little fun, I also have trouble spelling and speaking! Please dont take it the wrong way:001_smile:
