  1. Well said Ben! Another point is that the TPO forms should be filled in correctly and accurately with all relevent information/reasons for works the first time. Because if the application gets refused and the client wants to appeal the decision, no further information/reasons can be submitted at a later point. I think the best way is to explain to the customer that if you get the work you will do the forms for free, but if get someone else to do the work there wil be a charge for the paperwork. ---£500 should cover it
  2. I agree with Chris Not bad for youre first effort, but try not to take too much out of the middle of the crown. When you take all the growth off the branches and leave alot on the end ( begginers tend to do this) it is known as 'LION TAILING' and can lead to the branches breaking in the wind and it looks bad. But very good for a first go and youre on the right lines! well done And remember different species of trees react differently to how they are pruned! I would be reluctant to take much off the top of a birch.
  3. I dont think honesty is the best policy all the time! (like when your wife asks how many pints you have had when you have just nipped to the pub for an hour before tea and come back trying to act sober) but when you are giving customers advice it is a must, and you have been professional and honest. Qualities people look for and hopefully you will be the first person they think about when they have other treework they may want doing or if others ask them if they know anyone who does treework. As far as giving people advice over the phone I think it is very limited information you can gain or give to a customer over the phone and I dont know anybody does it or would want to. Carry on as you are is my advice!
  4. If you are towing a lot of weight with a landy make sure the trailer brakes are working/well serviced. I have been used to towing with heavier vehicles then got in a landy towing 3 tonnes and quicky realised stopping distances going down hill in the wet with a trailer that needs the brakes adjusting have slightly increased. No accidents but went very pale
  5. 0.161 addictive yes
  6. NEVER do this! As said above the steam could burn you and the ash bursts out and will fill your room and make a real mess, ive seen it done.
  7. My wife turned around and said she is leaving me because of my obsession with trees!!!!! I said for sake petal where did all this stem from?
  8. No I wouldnt condone a TO lying to the public in anyway either, just the truth and maybe a personnel opinion at most. It was just said in a joking manner, as some people do not appreciate trees and have them felled without a second thought, I thought you may have realised this.
  9. Which maybe for the best, in some situations!
  10. I dont know the reason behind the design for sure, but I presume they are for strengthening/physio of muscle/tendons. The best way to describe them is they are like a weight mounted on ball bearings inside a plastic ball, when you shake the ball in circular motions it gets the weight spinning inside and the more you do so it creates a G force much heavier than the ball. Quite clever really. matt
  11. Please Ben, you will give people the wrong impression!! Glug Glug Glug ahh Ps I have been avoiding the ''Am I drinking too much thread''
  12.
  13. I would go and see a solicitor taking all the info/receipts/evidence with you and seeing where you stand in terms of legally chalenging him. Sounds like he is bang out of order.
  14. I have just purchased a Powerball/gyroscope just for the novelty factor really after having a go of a friends. Apparently they really strengthen muscle fibres and are used by sports people and such to rehabilitate muscle, tendon, ligament, and injuries. They are quite addictive and really get your arms pumped to the point where you have to change hands. I am hoping it may help me strenghten/excercise my wrists/ elbows and relieve some of the pain i get from holding big branches with one hand as i cut them and prusiking. Ill let you know if i think it does any good in a few months, and wonderd if anyone else had tried them ????? ps i know i shouldnt be holding big branches with one hand
  15. Oh if thats the case, you pass me on the way to Huddersfield, may aswell drop it here!
  16. Nice offer Alec, im sure someone will take you up on it, Essex is a bit far for me.
  17. I wont type in that blue again it gives you headache reading it!!! ha ha
  18. thanks for the info. matt
  19. I must admit I get grief from time to time (most weeks) from people who say what are you doing messing about with that! just buy new or its not worth it throw it in the bin! Its not because i am tight - although that could be a factor! I just enjoy fixing things and learning how things work and trapping my fingers and shoving screwdrivers in my hands. you know mans stuff
  20. I will give heating the plug up first a try, should i just give it a few seconds with a blow lamp? thanks for the replys
  21. Yes good compression, yes tried starting with throttle open. Going over it in my head one thing i didnt do is spend time setting the gap between the magnet and coil and it could be probably ajusted more-would this give a weak spark? although it looks ok. just knit picking really
  22. I didnt put a new plug in it because the new plugs i have were slightly different so i cleaned the old one up with a fine wire brush and tested it out of the socket, it seemed to spark well/strong so i thought it would be fine? yes it is wet with fuel when i remove it. Do you think the coil could be at fault with maybe a weak spark? but it doesnt look very weak? what tests could i do with a multimter- anyone know?
  23. I was given an old set of hedge trimmers (stihl hs60 av) which needed some work to get going again. I dont know if they would be even powerful enough for me to use if i could get them going but i thought it would be a challenge. The obvious stuff i could see was the HT lead pulled out of coil, pull cord broke, rusted blades seized together, av mounts broken, screws missing etc So in my wisdom I have stripped them right down to bits, cleaned, sharpened and replaced and fixed where needed. BUT will they fire up NO, I cant understand it I have a good spark, good fuel getting into cylinder, clean filters but i cant get them to fire? Its not the end of the world if i just sell them for parts, but to have put so much effort into them i would like to see them running, cant understand it - any ideas? cheers
