  1. Ive just spoken to someone who knows a bit about this and they said, that if you have passed your certificate years ago under a different awarding body, when it changed to nptc they gave you grandfather rights, if you registered with them, however if you did not register with the new awarding body, then your qualifacation would expire at a set cut off point. Regards Matt
  2. Quicksteel is £5 - £6 a tube not sure the weight of them off hand but you get a fair bit.
  3. My understanding of the situation is that you are qualified! This is something I have looked into (refresher courses)and I was told that you would only need a refresher course if you have not used a saw for years and was totally out of practice. If you pass your chainsaw test and you are a competent, regular user then why would you need a refresher course unless something drastic had changed? Any other opinions? M
  4. Quicksteel will repair it, look at the post above. Im sure there is lots of stuff on the market these days that will do the job.
  5. I went back to the trimmers today and found the problem I Think?! In the end i could get them to run for a few seconds then that would be it. Today I stripped them down again and found a crack in the hard plastic carb adapter thingy which goes inbetween the carb and the cylinder and when i pulled at it, it broke in half, it had been sucking in air through it, just got to try and find another now! Im determined not to let it beat me, without an explanation.
  6. Just to let you know Spud, I rebuilt this saw and after a new carb kit and a tune/clean its absolutley mint, im made up, thanks for youre advice
  7. its right handed, there is no such thing as a left handed saw
  8. This stuff will be far better for fixing chainsaw covers, its sets so hard that you can drill and tap it, in under an hour QuikSteel - Kalimex
  9. Of course but with a saw I dont carry on using it for half an hour like a numpty
  10. I agree Im going to strip it completely tomorrow, and then see how it goes.
  11. No youre not wrong (unfortunatley) its a PITA.
  12. Got ya, thats the explanation I was looking for!
  13. What for! cutting branches off?
  14. Oh right thanks for the replies. I did have a sneaky suspition that would have something to do with it, but couldnt imagine how it would tighten it.
  15. Does anyone know why the chain on a stihl pole pruner would keep going tight? I've seen it happen a few times over the years but never really got to the bottom of why it does it. I keep cleaning the head out and readjusting it but very quickly it tightens itself up very tight until it nearly stops the engine. I cant see how the bar is moving to tighten it? and the adjusting screw seems fine? Also I get problems when it stops oiling the chain and it needs to be stripped down alot, does this happen to you? regards Matt
  16. I have had my Vertex Vent for about 8 months and yesterday the adjusting wheel on the back broke off! I know 3 others this as happened to now. I know the newer ones have changed the design with the adjusters on the sides, but this is pretty poor for an £80 quid helmet. How many off you have had the same happen? Do you think its worth mentioning to the supplier to see if they will do anything? Its not like I have even turned the adjuster much.

    Fuel Mix

This thread is quite informative but leaves me wondering what to do for the best? Ive read earlier that if you have saws that you may not use for a while, you would be better draining the fuel out of them so the petrol doesnt degrade the rubbers in the carb. ( which is what ive started doing) but now your saying that if theres no petrol in the carb for a while, the rubbers may shrink and sp,lit/crack? What are you best doing if you are not using your equipment for a while? Oh I get it............... use Aspen
  18. That sounds sensible, thank you. Matt
  19. Does anyone know the procedure of giving a five day notice on a potentially dangerous protected tree? Does it have to be in writing or will a phone call do? Matt
  20. Sorry guys, you are wrong! I got it any way and if you cut off the notch off the plastic sleeve on the stihl shaft it fits and works perfectly. Its the same square drive shaft and same diameter round shaft. If you are bothered about the plastic notch you can buy another for about three quid. Probably not what Stihl want to hear but its a seemingly good cheap back unit. The ryobi trimmer head itself is pretty pants, but with the stihl head its mint.
  21. Interesting ideas, ill look into this. Probably not practical on a large scale but definitley on individual specimen trees in private gardens. Thanks M
  22. Im the same with spurts of interest, i commute to work now and then on my bike and its killed the urge to go at other times. Been to some great places though, Fort William, le getz and loads of places around the Pennines. Ad some good times, should do it more.
  23. Ah well sometimes its hard to see the wood for the trees! glad you got it sorted anyway. matt
  24. Sounds like some sort of gasket has gone?? Is the spark plug in properly?
  25. I think the book is more useful than the CD's, as there are all the pictures in it and as mentioned above the American guy gets very annoying and I find myself talking american for the rest of the day!! good job
