  1. I understand completely. I want to enjoy it I suppose there is more satisfaction from tinkering/learning yourself.
  2. Is there any where you can buy modded parts to assemble your self? I have seen a couple of bits on ebay but not much.
  3. As he said, effin awesome!!
  4. NO. For a TPO app
  5. If you have been 'adjusting' these screws without knowledge of what they do, I would recommend you take the saw to a professional and get them to look at it, before you do any further damage.
  6. No need to submit a report unless you are claiming that the tree is diseased, dangerous or causing damage.
  7. Its a sycamore. ffs
  8. I used to think having a few files and a knock in vice was a god send but nothings makes more sense than doing that.
  9. I agree, start with the cheapest first. personally I would change the switch, wires and plug first off. coils are expensive.
  10. Some good ones coming up! I already do the tirfor winch one and the raking and the dumpy bag, they are all useful tips. another simple one, personally I cant get on with these silly bags for storing throw lines in, I always end up with a massive tangle. Find a nice branch 2" diameter, cut to 2' long and put a V in each end. Put a throw bag on each end of your line and wrap length ways around the stick. It stores neatly in your bag, never gets tangled, quickly wraps up and you can use the stick as a pulling handle when your bag gets snagged. Having a bag on each end just makes it more versatile, depending where your bag ends up after throwing it.
  11. I am sure you didn't mean for this thread to turn into the list of sarcastic comments it is going to do here's my serious input: I got this idea from AT. Thread a plastic carritool clip onto your harness, and tie the gate open with a cable tie to make a hook that you can hang your saw on whilst climbing! works perfect for me.
  12. Getting someone else to dismantle the difficult trees.
  13. On a bit of a negative note, has anyone suffered any catastrophic engine failures through having ported a saw? It must put extra load on the bearings, crank, flywheel, clutch? Does it lessen the life of the saw?
  14. Are you spying on me?
  15. Significant pruning of deciduous trees in spring is not ideal, as the trees potential energy is at its lowest point of the year. Walnuts also are prone to heavy bleeding which is also at its worst in spring. The tree wont die from bleeding but its a waste of its resources and at best unsightly. As with all pruning works try not to remove too much.
  16. Sounds more like tree mutilation than pollarding. I would say no.
  17. I always service my saws after use, clean and sharpen- ready for next time. Nothing worse than picking a blunt saw up.
  18. I have just spent two hours reading about porting chainsaws. I feel mischievously excited and am planning on buying a range of files, a dremmel and some new drill bits tomorrow. I will possibly have a range of Stihl chainsaws for sale next week (that do not run for some reason ) I think im going to practice first on some scored cylinders first
  19. It just needs a timber grab on it:001_smile:
  20. HOPE WE GET A STEP BY STEP GUIDE for the 66 mods?
  21. I think I would have shown a little more concern about the possibility of the house being damaged sooner. You would have to be a good machine driver to stop that.
  22. Do they? I thought they had been superseded by the 661 now? I thought once the old stock was gone that would be it for the 660. oh well you learn something everyday
  23. No you couldn't.......they don't make them anymore
  24. 13 Tonne
  25. I respect Graham's thoughts, he isn't usually far off the mark when it has come to other identification posts. These threads are always difficult, that's what makes them fun. personally my first thoughts when I saw the pictures were that it is Quercus- oak and now Graham has made me look closer I am doubting poplar which was my second thought. im going to have another beer and let you guys decide.
