  1. You can book onto a course for service/repair at the Stihl main depot at Camberley. Its not cheap but its a good informative course. You can choose to do a one day or three day course dependant on your knowledge level and you can buy all the proper tools for doing the job. It can get very expensive if you are a tool tart like me.
  2. Have you got a copy of this one Gary?
  3. No, definitely not
  4. You don't adjust it. The one screw is to adjust the idle only.
  5. Is this not just damaged bark that is oozing sap?
  6. Well it looks like a nice big tree? Is it well thought of? the fungus certainly looks like Meripilus. Not always a reason to fell immediately but It will definitely need further investigation and monitoring to see the extent of the decay -if you are to leave it standing for a while. With the targets you mention- long term doesn't look good. The crown may give no indication of decline. Im sure you will get some more advice soon.
  7. 69 the magic number
  8. What are the targets around the tree?
  9. Superb Too good for gate posts, id have that above the fire
  10. I need a new carb for an 066, the one that was on it is a WJ 4-1 which I think is discontinued. Does anyone know a place I could get a replacement? thanks Matt

    Stunt fell

Where was the lane that was not closed?
  12. No, they are two different saws. unfortunately. I had this idea also.
  13. Ms261 problems ??? where do we start
  14. I would say yes, if they used to manage the land and now it has come to light that they don't own it because it was never legally handed over. Therefore cease management, future responsibility diminishes. I think the answer is, if it is supposed to by registered and managed by the Council- why cant this process be completed? The other option as you say is for the local residents to register it and set up a management plan of their own. There are a few similar cases of this around the borough.
  15. A difficult one Gaz, I am coming across this more and more.
  16. I would say NO. not worth getting into debt for. I would suggest gaining some experience on the saw under supervision, would benefit you more. Just because you have cs 30/31 it wont be a massive financial benefit without working experience.
  17. The thing is, we are talking about Unnaturally chopping branches off a tree with a chainsaw to a point that the tree will be best enabled to include/seal the wound. That point has been found to be at the branch collar, through the work of Shigo. Leaving stub cuts will not help the long term inclusion process. In a natural environment with no intervention from man, it wouldn't matter. Formative pruning corrects defects. Matt
  18. I agree, never apply creosote with your baby making tackle.
  19. I had to read that twice ha ha
  20. +1 that's my diagnosis also
  21. Why all the advice to leave a long stub? what's wrong with pruning to the collar?
  22. Thanks for this, good info. Still not going to do it tho.
  23. Ok just to summarise: Concentrate on what you're doing and ignore everybody else.
