  1. I Have done a few hours with one of these. They are ok, but really not amazing. I have also used the 3400 which is next size up which is better. But the echo 360tes is a good deal better saw and probably similar price. I would look at that. How cheap can you get the makita? Sent from my C6603 using Arbtalk mobile app
  2. Atleast you have one for parts for next time Sent from my C6603 using Arbtalk mobile app
  3. Wonder what the echo 360wes is like, if it's just the back handle version of the TES then it should be sweet. Sent from my C6603 using Arbtalk mobile app
  4. someone get it bought! i would if i didnt have one. thats a fair (very) price. is that a 30 or 36'' bar?
  5. yep only reason to do it is for fun. 150/200 quid plus a days labour (potentially irritating day at that) and your looking at what you could buy a decent working second hand saw/new bottom end saw.
  6. Where abouts is that matty? I been carving a bench today Sent from my C6603 using Arbtalk mobile app
  7. Really? I used a 660 until I got a 076 and 084 never thought of using it since. You really found 660 faster on smaller bits? Sent from my C6603 using Arbtalk mobile app
  8. For my money I wouldnt want to pay much more than 100 quid for a 40cc saw I hadnt seen with my own eyes(unless from a trustworthy source), bought alot that way and often they will need some work. Worth allowing an extra 50quid for filters, sprockets, carb bits, etc. Sent from my C6603 using Arbtalk mobile app
  9. For the price the 076. Though I switched from 076 to 084 (with brand new pistol and cylinder) and it washed noticably faster. What's your budget? Not tried 3120 for milling yet Sent from my C6603 using Arbtalk mobile app
  10. Yes great result! I guess some do have a conscience and some don't, just like everyone else. Tars and brushes and all that Sent from my C6603 using Arbtalk mobile app
  11. Great news, so pleased you got him back! Sent from my C6603 using Arbtalk mobile app
  12. Reckon they are a little over 200 quid new. Personally, I have found the bottom end hobby type saws from still and husky to be ok when running fine, fiddly to fix, and need fixing more often. Sent from my C6603 using Arbtalk mobile app
  13. Yeah, honestly it was totally fine with wee detail carving saw, plus pretty impossible to get a carving bar to kickback. Best not to carve onehanded, though if you could do 2 carvings at a time with two toppers you'd make a fortune at shows. Sent from my C6603 using Arbtalk mobile app
  14. That's pretty exciting. After quick glance found some at 520 quids which is about same as a 550xp Sent from my C6603 using Arbtalk mobile app
  15. i block with a normal ground saw sprocket nose, then switch to 1/4 .050 14'' for carving. never really seen the use in using 3/8 as the point isnt that pointy.
  16. also have noticed these husky 425s for sale lately, maybe for carving? maybe for tree work? says carving, anyone had a pop with one?
  17. i used an makita dcs230t with a tiny .43 10" sugi bar for a good while. thought it would do my wrists in carving with topper, but its all so light and manouvarable its was great and very handy. wouldnt replace a 14'' .50 carving bar however. obvs i was roped in whenever i did this. now on with an echo 270wes, which is fine. if it will be your only carving saw, get a back handle.
  18. yes, a friend of mine has a 242xp, excellent and light, pretty similar to dolly 430 or dcs 4301 hens teeth though now
  19. why use an alaskan when you could get one of these? seriously? sounds bad when i say it but i usually manage to use a ladder and slide it along the timber about a meter or so before i get to the end, making sure its parallel to to mill (with the saw left in the cut.). sure this is not 100% but its def ok if your careful and not much hastle.
  20. Join and artist union, they offer p.l for sculptures up to 10m of height, about 30/40 quid a year. So cheap it's worth doing I reckon, I think aue was what I used. No good for arbwork though Sent from my C6603 using Arbtalk mobile app
  21. I wouldn't bother with non genuine sprockets, bars etc. Saying that I have had a non genuine side cover (Inc brake band etc) of a 357 for about 4 yes now. Seen some good graft and amazingly it's still fine. Similar experience with cheap (farmertech) carbs, so cheap wasn't expecting much, but they seem to be still fine. 22. might be me being daft but anytime i try and search for old artcles etc i always get the "too common" or no results searching for things like "sap on ropes" or "spruce sap" "ropes" etc never seems to work any searching tips anyone?
