  1. I've started many a post with "I'm a few drinks in..." I normally end up not sending it, and in the morning it doesn't seem worth it. I followed through this time though! God what a rush.
  2. Allow me to help: http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/lounge/82527-pricing-jobs.html Using the search function of the forum I was quickly able to find a multitude of threads on the matter. This one was started by... ... Oh wait, whoops!
  3. Nice knowing you mate...
  4. Am I the only one who fully understands this. Chuck Norris created the universe by roundhouse kicking the atom. Chuck Norris gave us life, and as such Chuck Norris can take life away. In a fight between Science, God, and Chuck Norris, there is only one winner, and he has a ginger beard. I dare anyone to disagree. Oh, and in case you haven't quite grasped this concept yet, the species life of a tree is determined solely by... ... You guessed it.
  5. 'Cos by the time you're 80 you get up into the tree and mutter "I've forgotten what I came in here for"!
  6. I live and work in Rugby, and it's a big f you to the independent tree teams when this happens. The council tree team are subsidised by tax payers money, and then they compete in an underhand manner in the private sector . They can afford to work for far less since taxpayers money covers overheads, wages etc. It's wrong. Nowt against the lads doing the work, a jobs a job, but when it affects small business something's gonna have to give.
  7. On smooth bark trees, sometimes, not on mature oak.
  8. If you pay well, for decent work, with decent gear you can afford high standards and shouldn't have to suffer fools. I'm based in Rugby, and what you're offering is above what I'd expect to earn round here. If I was closer I'd be tempted to apply on the lower end of what you're offering (due to having 3 years experience) with a view to proving myself worthy of the top end of what you're offering in around 18 months. Thing is, I'm lucky to be working with a fantastic team. We get on well, are highly motivated and competitive, and we reap rewards from our productivity in the form of a profit sharing system. Sometimes there is more to a job than just money, and if I left I'd worry about sacrificing the enjoyment I get from my job for a few extra quid. It seems that people who don't put money above all else are looked down upon here, but I guess each person has a different motivation.
  9. Amazing day with family, and a stein tekichu "big shot"! Was gonna learn to hand throw , no need now!
  10. Funnily I've just opened a stein big shot. It folds up though so might make it easier!
  11. I bought my lady a plaque for the toilet saying "changing the toilet roll doesn't cause brain damage". For the life of me I can't remember where I put it! Looks like another year of doing the awkward shuffle to get a fresh roll of paper for me...
  12. Seconded my 357 must have tested your patience to the limit. I'm happy to announce it's now a blinder of a saw and will be farming out any work that's out of my league (can't be fixed with a hammer) to this wizard!
  13. I climb day to day on 11mm Yale blaze, with a hitch climber. Very light and your hands get used to it. Works great with a pantin too. My personal climb one is 11mm velocity, which is way nicer than blaze. When my work line retires I'll be trying blue tongue.
  14. Yale XTC is a lovely 13mm rope for a great price.
  15. I'd pick up my ported 357 on 15" 8t cutting gear personally. 560xp on 18" sounds like the popular current choice though.
  16. Nah, choked on a pube.
  17. Cheers dude, you just put me off my vag supper!
  18. Wasn't that one a troll? In the last three years I can remember using the rail of my rope twice. Once for an assessment and once as a demonstration. Main line and lanyard. Never needed owt else. Can't imagine I will in future either.
  19. I've just red what you eat daily. I reckon you're fibbing about your weight, you must be a right porker! I survive on beer, nicotine, red wine, bacon butties, and takeaway (pizza, Chinese, Indian and fish and chips - apparently a varied diet is good). I'm 10 stone, 5'8" and 28" waist. I'll pay for my sins one day.
  20. When do you get time to work!? Must have massive jaw muscles! I'd be interested to know how you have all that, I.e. A dozen raw eggs in a glass?
  21. Another great analogy you lot make learning fun!
  22. From what you've said about the manner in which you encourage your climbers to use their saws, I can imagine the T540 would be well suited to your crew. It's a good powerful saw, but its fragile if you drop it on it's strop, bang it around the tree, or pull it over too hard. I think it's better suited to dismantles however, as when pruning it regularly needs choke to start, even after a couple of minutes. In my opinion the 201t is better for this type of work. I'm surprised to report though, that I've bent the AV spring on the Stihl and the Husqy is still holding up well! I'm lucky enough to have a good complement of toppers at work, so I can pick and choose depending on the job.
  23. Almost as tall as the ash tree I dismantled yesterday morning.
  24. I've always thought you boffins had made up the "Venturi effect" as an in joke to confuse is regular thickos. That analogy explained it in perfect laymans term, cheers!
  25. Good shout with the open space thing, never thought of that. Got a couple of small rec climbs coming up where I'll practice. Might even use the trainee as a target. I just need to make time were I don't have any pressure to work. As for technique I've been enjoying "the stranger" recently. For throw lining in use the cradle throw. Tried it one handed and didn't feel right. This. I lost a mouthful of very nice red wine to this comment. Cheers bud.
