  1. I don't think you'll regret it mate. I was in the market for a 60cc saw. It was either buy a 560xp, or buy a scrapper 357 and send it Spuds way. I went for the latter. Cost half the price of a new 560xp, and it's brilliant. Was ringing up an ash stem today best to one of the lads. He was using my 441 on a 20" bar. I was on the 357 on a 15" bar. 25" timber, and I was still beating him!
  2. Consider sending it to Spud mate. For the price of a new aftermarket piston and if the cylinder can be salvaged you'll get £400 easily on EBay for it.
  3. So went back to finish the tree this morning. First shot missed, second got stuck. Balls. Was fun while it lasted.
  4. It's true that this is a discussion forum, but once again you're cherry picking information to suit you. This is an arboricultural discussion forum. All of the contributing members have a shared interest in various sectors of arb work. You however seem to do nothing more than post inflammatory comments in threads that have nothing to do with your skewed political agenda. Have you ever contributed anything productive towards the arb side of the forum, for which it was created?
  5. Ah, right. So "SUCK IT TREE! I MADE YOU MY BITCH!!!" ruined the moment then.
  6. Basically using a husky requires a smarter breed of tree cutter. Let the knuckle draggers use their Stihls I don't thing there's a definitive setup for those saws. You lose a fair bit of torque upping the sprocket. Wouldn't fancy it on any more than a 13". Also if you're a bit heavy handed in the cut it bogs really easily. It's why you don't see as many Stihl users with up rated sprockets. As long as you're not using semi chisel you're not a total philistine
  7. So lads, something weird happened to my throwline today. Wonder if anyone can shed some light on it. Storm damaged ash to start dismantling today. Was going to spike up and set my line, but it was a nice open crown and I thought what the heck. Hand threw a line straight over the anchor point I was going for around 60' up.... And here's the weird bit: EVERYBODY WAS WATCHING!!! Bit confused as it's never happened to me before. What do I do now? Get a MEWP in?
  8. Is asking that not affirming his comment?
  9. Never had a problem myself either. There's a definite technique though, compared to a Stihl where it's a bit like "pull the mother till it goes". I wonder if that's where people struggle. You kind of judge how long it's been sat for and decide on fast idle, primer etc. What sprocket and chain combo you running Richie?
  10. Both of them? That would have been fun to watch!
  11. Then how could they pass a friction cord if they can't trust the user to tie a knot!?!?
  12. I would have though that was "retrenchment pruning" Mick. As I understand it the endgame wasn't to achieve a significant reduction in height, but to encourage new growth from within the canopy. Might be way off the mark there though.
  13. Look at it from the other side. It's an obstruction parked on double yellows. Could be a skip, trailer, vehicle, whatever. The purpose of the parking restrictions is to prevent obstruction in busy or built up areas. Just playing devils advocate here.
  14. You're vids are always enjoyable to watch mate. You obviously have great crack at work, and it comes through in your videos.
  15. Personally I'd start with a prussik. When you can climb on that you might start looking at more advanced systems.
  16. Thank god. I was worried it might be something slanderous. I'd suggest that the poor confused old man bought a rope wrench, tether for said wrench, and a pantin (foot ascender) And one beer Mick. I weigh a little more than a wet fart though.
  17. Didn't take any mate. Was hungover and it was foggy as hell. What're you getting at?
  18. SRT to the rescue today. After a bottle and a half of Sauvignon last night I went to work with a thumping head. First job was a monster leaning beech to tip back from a house. The lean was away from the house so would have put my anchor point way away from where I needed to be on DDRT, plus the friction past all the branches would have been a nightmare! Blasted a throwline through the top of the canopy, base tie, and up I went. Dropped through a load of forks until I ended up right above my target. Few cuts, straight down, untied the bowline and pulled my rope out. Reckon it cut the job time in half, and I didn't struggle a bit!
  19. The only saw I use that needs cleaning on site it a Stihl 150. The sprocket cover gets jammed with sawdust and oil. I clean it with a Combi spanner. The rest can wait til I get back to the yard with electricity.
  20. RobD did a test which was about as comprehensive as it gets. There's a thread here somewhere. Anyways. Iirc save edge files were apparently the best. I really like my Vallorbe files though.
  21. Looks like I'll need a bigger box to send your way
  22. Hahaha yeah, that's why I don't compete! I'm sparing the other competitors feelings!
