  1. Motoring expenses are not to be overlooked. I cut and delivered 450 cube last winter, with the 110 doing 18000 miles over the year (i don't drive it for fun) and my fuel bill came in at 6500.00 for the year and is now my biggest expense.

  3. There's something about firewood that makes people think they are entitled to it and its their right! No matter the class of person its seen as fair game and are shocked when you catch them and tell them to put it back. They are more shocked when you tell them that i pay for the wood!

  5. Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't NI solely to do with your state pension entitlement and nothing to do with benefits now?
  6. Now going well compared to my earlier moan in the summer! I was wondering if we should be using split cubic metres instead of the mystical load? We have moaned about it on other threads and i'm sure our loads are all different? Anyway can't complain now, july was my slowest month ever! My summer discount backfired and everyone ordered the last week of august. Now delivering 12 to 16 cube a week and have orders for another 58 cube. Having read the other thread on delivery costs have upped my prices and added a 10 quid surcharge for orders between 20 to 30 miles and still they order and i don't want to go that far anymore but can't turn it down.
  7. I look at it that my diesel is claimed back against tax so goes someway to cover the cost.
  8. Beech can be a problem but i have found the higher you coppice (chest height) the better the chance of growth. Also when laid or coppiced often there is no growth for two years from the cut stump, callus growth has to form first. I have recently coppiced a outgrown hedge last cut 70 years ago and it has taken two years for shoots to appear. The larger the stump the longer it has taken. Ground level nothing as yet but chest height fully away.
  9. Why would i need C1E when i have B+E allowing me to drive up to 3500 and tow 3500? My landrover and trailer comb is 6550kg why is yours 6000kg?
  10. It doesn,t change anything. Those who took their test after 97 can still drive a transit/landrover etc up to 3.5 and only tow 750kg as before but then take a test to tow a trailer up to 3.5. And will then need to take the C licence as before.
  11. This is all so grey! So ifor need to stop making 3500kg trailers and i take it i'm ok if i tow the trailer with a 4x4? What about the exemption of 1050kg unladen weight? Everyone it seems in norfolk including the large estates all deliver with large trailers so to avoid the regs we will all need to buy transits with no towbars?
  12. You have misread it. Your chipper or trailer will not weigh more than 3500kg laden so there is no reason for you to need C1E. You can't tow now more than 3500kg without air brakes so there is no change really.
  13. Yes its not just cherry, but most fruit plums etc. Its aphids as soon as the sun came out last week the new growth has been un affected. Leave alone and hope for a less humid wet year next.
  14. Strong little machine that, you've used it to push the trees over on the fence line!
  15. Does the 1020kg still stand as my 3500kg trailer weighs under that when empty?
  16. Is that just the vehicle or the combined weight with trailer? Is that for C class licences or does that include B + E as some it states CPC was for C licences and above only. My local large firm coal merchants now use cabstars not 7.5 tonners!
  17. I started a thread a few weeks ago on driver cpc and was told that as driving wasn't my main activity i had an exemption. Delivery of logs (felling, extraction and splitting is my main activity) by trailer using a landrover within 50 km of base? What is the score on ol, tachos and cpc because as usual we haven't had a straight answer!
  18. I wouldn't normally bother with the radio, even the truck doesn't have one! But there's something soothing about the cricket over the whine of the 357.
  19. Huck i fear you are right. People can only spend what they have got.
  20. Does anyone else listen whilst felling or it just me?
  21. As it says how do you rate the oxtrac and in particular on difficult sites, marshy, steep etc?
  22. Money doesn't go far enough anymore and things go wrong quickly with people behaving like they did five years ago. It looks as though she spent out on holiday? Her house will be up for sale in a couple of months! We all need to be more careful when making or leaving products. I have plenty of people who are out when i deliver logs or want to post me a cheque.
  23. Thats what i mean chris hand falling will be important. Every time i fell a tree i pride myself on hitting the gap, we are growing the rest for the future? I have had plenty with me who couldn't give a monkees about other trees trees etc. But hung trees cost money!
