  1. Whats the camera and how much cos i'm impressed by the quality. Better than some of the stuff on crimewatch. I'm always interested to know what goes on when i go home!
  2. Put the pull line through top of another strong one, couple of hitches, fell 2-3 foot off the bottom each time whilst groundsman lowers top after each cut (tie in bottom if necessary to stop butt throw). Always works good on dead trees you can't climb.
  3. Looks like your typical gamekeeper turned poacher!!! There's plenty round here they always know where you are!
  4. I have a 600quid chinese built 25 tonne splitter off ebay and i can tell you its very well made with all parts double thickness compared to the british one. The only complaint is the fittings are all odd sizes!
  5. M3 sorry Jon at Mendiplogs started that one!
  6. 400 m2 up on last year but dead for last three weeks. Just ticking over which is actually quite nice.
  7. I can never find anyone who wants it cos its mixed in too small numbers as a nurse.
  8. You are doing something right? It wouldn't matter if i turned over a million my bank still wouldn't lend. And i know of large farms round here who are having their overdrafts seriously trimmed.
  9. As a farmer do you own any land?
  10. When dry both burn the same, the same speed as scots and same heat. I sold a lot of WRC last year with no problems. I've got lawson on the open fire now.
  11. Oh and a mate of mine wanted to buy some logs for his sister in Gloucestershire(sp?) for xmas but the log company couldn't deliver till the new year and they couldn't fell the trees quick enough?!! He didn't order!
  12. Quite frankly they don't want to pay for it. Orders still steady but no rush and it won't come this year. Everybody seems shocked by prices and i'm middle of the road. I just remain quiet when they are silent on phone they eventually order a half load!
  13. You won't find any wood dry enough now to sell to keep your customers happy?
  14. I had the same last week, they wanted another 4 cube of hardwood but were shocked by my new price and that the local sawmill could do a tranny for 140. I said do the maths per cube, my load is a pound cheaper per cube and i would bet the hardwood would be poplar and softwood! They didn't order, this year its price they are after deals and bargains.
  15. Gone nuts as of yesterday, one frost and an icy road is all it took! Put my hardwood price up and now shifting more softwood! Also been turning up with a half load (2 cube) and then selling the other half to the same customer. And you know its the same story that they were sold wet crap by the guy local last year?
  16. I said about this a few weeks ago but nobody thought it was a good idea as beech would be too brittle for a processor! My best wood is squirrel killed i just struggle to kill the trees no matter how deep i cut?
  17. Exactly! I have plenty of customers and the orders will come. I don't really advertise and my price is now middle of the road for North Norfolk. I regularly attract new clients because they have had wet wood or something mixed in they weren't paying for! Its all quite simple really the customer isn't dumb.
  18. The average tranny (without double cab) is 2.7 m2. Leyland 400 is the same and Cabstar smaller. We can't compete end of, we have got to supply a better product to ask a higher price and don't fall into the same traps as the others.
  19. Lets just remember that when the firewood poem was made up and other sayings, the woodburner wasn't used here just huge open fires in the average country home. Logs were rare just big faggots which would have dried quicker than a log. We are the ones now who need to be telling people what is good to burn or suitable for woodburners. The customer is still thinking open fires with a mountain of coal to get it going! Hope that makes sense.
  20. I agree. Don't claim that its seasoned then you can't be knocked off your perch!
  21. Firewood customers are very fickle. The estate next to me had a lot of customers in my village and nearby. This year they have increased the price of their 2 cube full load by 30.00 to 100.00 mainly hardwood nice and dry. I have had 5 calls over the last couple of days by people shocked by the price!
  22. You only require it if you travel further than 50km(31mies) radius from your base. You should still be covered by the forestry exemption.
