  1. We have never had a depression like this one so things are going to be difficult. Lots of people have had money and are now struggling like hell so firewood is the least of their worries? Everyone on here is listing different reasons for slow sales. Somehow we have got to strike a happy medium and try not to put all your eggs in the firewood basket. For my part the phone is dead just trickling along but are still seeing plenty of half full transits flying about with green softwood! The big spenders won't spend!
  2. On other threads you are ok within a 31 mile radius of your base.
  3. Who's the trailer made by and how much if you don't mind me asking?
  4. Before i start phoning round, I will need a mobile sawmill for a day in about a weeks time near Hoveton, Norfolk if anyone can give me a day rate. 8 oak butts from 24 to 30", 8 to 14' to be inch planked teleporter to load mill. Thanks.
  5. I can see why your log sales are busy unlike mine. It just doesn't feel cold here and the sun keeps coming out!
  6. Nothing to worry about, thank god for landrovers keeping britains motoring cheap! on mine the lights keep going out when i hit a bump!
  7. I don't know whether i'll have a chance only asked for a small amount for small forwarding trailer. From what i understand the uptake from farmers for non-forestry stuff has been high.
  8. We have to wait a month for turkey! Saying that some of mine are looking too fat already!
  9. So to cut to the chase! All i need to do is add the helper springs(don't worry i'll replace all the others as well) to upgrade to 3500kg?
  10. Decided today to just smile when peeved! and you know what i feel better for it. Everything worked out well, new barn for wood, grant in the pipeline(thanks big bolt) etc, etc. Anyone else had a good day?
  11. Just use a 346 or 026 instead, more power, almost same weight, you're a climber your forearms should be rock anyway!
  12. Any difference in the axle between the two?
  13. The trouble with tree work is there's cheap and very cheap! We will end up with a lot of two faced tree officers who will have to turn a blind eye to rubbish work? Personally i feel the small one/two man bands will survive this depression as the larger ones are bound by too much red tape. We all need more than one string to our bows don't specialise in one area?
  14. Same here after the other weekend best just to keep quiet.
  15. No it was my fault i should have said but didn't know i could! I'll be ordering a mini-mill soon anyway.
  16. Didn't see the bit about 10%!!!!
  17. Just a thankyou to Rob(i think) for excellent service, if it was ebay i would give positive feedback! Mill arrived today excellent in the nick of time for job tomorrow. Thankyou again.
  18. Sometimes the stump breaks in two as you can't finish the cut quick enough, can be scary!
  19. Stumps are a real pain for me usually after a harvester has been through, spend too much time lowering other peoples stumps. I use an old ford 4610 with riko three point linkage crane its small to access tight sites but still has guts. I suppose it depends whether you are selling the wood on or cutting for your own business, how much you need to shift in a day?
  20. 4 to 6 weeks depending how busy they are but less paper work than con areas!
  21. At times though no, cos i come home with stuff i don't really need and then have to work harder to get the mortgage money together!
  22. It is Jan to Mar etc, I nearly came un stuck last year.
  23. So sorry to hear that how much do you think? Theft is now one of my biggest worry's, i had a couple of trailers go last year (12 cube) and am still convinced it was an inside job!
  24. A lot of farms here straw chop at harvest so it goes straight back in to save on fertiliser. Again for the second year there is a national shortage of straw and the price has risen so would there be enough for bio-mass?
