  1. Well i'm sitting here stunned. just fed the dogs now taking her a green tea corrie sounds as though its on a break!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. Just a general question after a hard day chopping wood, climbing trees, felling etc do you still have to cook tea for yourself and err? I do and its hard enough concentrating on the day works without having to think about what to get from tesco on the way home!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Got a quote today for the poly tunnel to cover my stacks! its up there with the price of gold! Customer today has my type of burner will take 24" lengths can't find anyone local who does above 9!!!! 4cube split by hand within the hour. the new husky axes really are quite good.
  4. No always seasoned or something that will burn ash holly etc. I always tell customers what they are getting burnability etc. I hate turning people away, which l suppose is my business problem i'm too emotionally attached to my wood!!!! but every new customer has a horror story of what they have been supplied in the past usually along the lines of 'it came out of the river.'
  5. Exactly but dog and new tricks!
  6. I would say there's 30 to 40.00 of wood in a split 4 cube load, split on site no doubling handling just cost of delivery. Winter price has been set at 200.00.
  7. Don't know haven't seen? bagged or truck? lots of builders giving it a go now.
  8. 12 foot ifor williams. four cube 150.00. yes thats right! 17 years doing firewood only in the last three have i paid for wood so can't suddenly increase price to customers by 150.00? still make a profit on 20.00 cube standing. i compete against heating oil and gas if you charge too much they get oil. we need to be careful people look for bargains and will soon go elsewhere. And i have no where near enough wood cut cos i've been too busy delivering!
  9. Price increase for winter 1st sept. Cheap at mo 150.00 four cube direct from woods. Norfolk has lots of transits charging 130.00 to compete against, my customers don't stomach large increases so haven't been able to get prices up much yet, there's a lack of cash at present and lots of second homeowners who are very tight with their money! which is why they have money? much rather do four loads cheaper than one higher priced.
  10. I need 8, 30 inch 8foot oaks planked towards the end of the month if you can suggest someone and price? i can load the mill with teleporter.
  11. Melton Constable. Sorry new to all this and can only type with one finger!
  12. At least i'm not the only one. like you i have plenty of wood just can't get it dry enough in time. need more ash coppice but some wise forester here planted it all with douglas and scots!!! the heating oil price hasn't come down this summer so my customers are double or triple ordering.
  13. Is anyone else worrying like me? Orders going nuts, can't keep up with the felling and worrying like hell that i'm going to run out of seasoned before december this year. And once you supply green hardwood or mix in s/w my customers don't come back!
  14. 1 acre per year so you pay for what you cut. 3 years ago i charged 5 per faggot, the closest quote to me was 7.50 and the order for 200. it more than filled an arctic but a pain to load. all species can go in blackthorn was an arse but was straight coppice stuff so made fairly quickly! try your local drainage board for a contact or chop it all for kindling?
  15. didn't want to call em faggots as thought too rude for this site!!!!! or is that my mind. haven't had any faggot orders for three years now? we need large open fires again or smaller faggots! i found when making them that i tried to make them too tidy.
  16. Woodland crafts by ray tabor has a table of what you can expect to produce. My book is at my new house so will dig it out over the weekend unless someone else on here has a copy? Hazel goes for anything from 300.00 to 900.00 an acre depending on quality. Only look to coppice an acre so you don't end up with too much and work it up as you go. Leave it tidy and you'll be invited back! And make sure the fence is working before regrowth starts. Try and find a source for fascines, they are a chore to make but are a source for your rubbish and were going for around 7.00 each?
  17. Spelling mistake: 'inefficiently'. had to look that one up though!!!!!!!!!!
  18. Summer time buy in bulk. My customers have 16 m2 straight from the woods at 600.00, which works out at the same now as 1000 ltrs of heating oil. My price increases as of september to cover extraction which is why people need to be more prepared. Most customers struggle to get through 16 cube in a winter.
