  1. Why the hell do we have to keep re-inventing the wheel? We had this great system called coppice with standards everyone was happy then someone went abroad saw the dollar signs and came back with modern day forestry. It works for 20 years, everyone forgets how much it cost to plant and keep the trees alive, the market drops and everyone scratches their heads for 10 years wondering what to do with the wonder tree, then a new grant funded market develops, we flood that the rubbish that should be better used elsewhere till the price drops, then we scratch our heads again. The firewood price has gone too high already some people are already choosing between food and fuel!
  2. Selling more cord to homeowners than split logs! Lets remember: Its mild, The middle class is now squeezed and those kids want presents, Lots of customers had late loads last year. Maybe it will or maybe it won't who knows!
  3. James Madden has got the last three winters right but missed this warm spell! the met office seem to hate him but he could still be right it can change over night.
  4. The going rate in Norfolk at the garden centre(not large chain store) or garden gate seems to be 3.50?
  5. I totally see your point and i didn't know issues had been raised with the Barlow thread until a few mins ago. The discussion over CW was between fellow firewood merchants and i suppose should have been aired privately.
  6. Is there a difference between that and Skyhuck calling Gary Barlow a muppet?
  7. My coppiced ash outgrows sycamore when not nibbled by deer. I would guess it depends on the site and soil. Sycamore under a canopy will do better than ash and open grown ash better. On a slightly wet site ash will romp away from a planted whip.
  8. It's wrong now but my computer is the correct time whats going on?
  9. Well it was wrong and now its not!
  10. Is it me or is the clock still an hour ahead on here? If not people must be allowed up longer than i am!
  11. I didn't want to mention that one but you know they will and America will have to back them so Obama has the support he needs.
  12. I agree have lost twice and know of others the same. It will cost you more than 200 with court fees etc and if she starts lying as happened with me it becomes very stressful as you may end up with a judge who sides with her?
  13. Thankyou tha'ts all i need to know i think.
  14. China is now starting to slow, how slow wait and see. Its economy is a bubble waiting to burst and is totally dependent on the rest of the world to support it. The problem is the Chinese (and Indian) governments have the problem that their people now want a western style economy and lifestyle. Billions of people rioting will be a bit different to the London riots!!
  15. Oliver Rackham and others seem to think it was introduced around 1500 and there is no evidence to support Roman introduction. Its good for firewood and coppices well but i would always take ash as it has more uses and hence markets.
  16. The EU just will not work, there is no way countries with in-bred corruption and fiddles can be or will be policed by countries such as Germany and France. It has never worked and it will not work now. I see now that America is forming a pact with Pacific nations, we need to be careful we will be left with no friends?
  17. They don't mind wet wood though! No haven't heard anything certain but it would seem we were bound by this 31 mile rule already.
  18. Half my customers live in the North Sea!
  19. This is the point where you try and sell it to me!
  20. What a working 4x4 or lets pretend? if so i'll get one of them!
  21. Looked at a newish transit today the chassis looked thinner than my standard one so was wondering if that part is necessary or it was LR going over board? The other option would be to get a crashed Wolf or utility to gain the chassis and VIN plate any thoughts? By the way before anyone says i rarely spend more than 4K on a work truck, new isn't an option but doing one up is!
  22. Easy- lift i just don't see it, Germany and France for what ever reason are intent on making it work? Its as though someone else wants the system to fail though, everytime an agreement is made, that other person will throw a spanner in the works again and i don't believe its the markets in general.
  23. A lot of you tree surgeons will suddenly be trying to sell a lot of cheap firewood to cover your mortgage! Joe Publics money will totally dry up and will only be spent on the essentials such as food and fuel. Look at Greece now there's no spending power. The pattern on this is the same as pre-war where governments had to make work such as Germany building auto-bahns. This time it will be either war or one government!
