Daylight reading issues, boot up times, poor battery life, crap data entry, software gremlins... if it was 400.00 I could probably live with it but I demand better when spending thousands. When running a Picus etc I use an ordinary laptop and keep it in the van with just the cable running to the Picus. I'd look at a Mobilemapper with Digiterra or similar if you want to put tree features in accurately. Even they have there problems though, dense tree cover being one of them. I think the underlying problem is, we are a small industry so the products are always and compromise from another industry. Perhaps have a look on eBay for a reconditioned one and see if it fits your needs.
  4. Is that a 281 in your profile pic Spudulike? Seen a view on eBay and tempted for a punt myself?
  5. Seen on the way to my brother in-laws last weekend... The scaffold is a lot closer to the LV than it looks in this picture, well within the vicinity zone!

iPad will not run autoCAD mate, why would you want to run AutoCAD in the field?
  7. I put a scissor jack hidden in a brash pile through a whole tree chipper once, smashed all the blades, it fired the parts 50m, some went through the windscreen of a parked walking floor lorry!

It depends what you want to run on it, windows mobile is awful. If you want to run proper survey software then you better off with a rugged laptop. I hate tough books with a passion, take an age to boot up and always going wrong. How important is rugged anyway when the alternative is paper? I use paper with a weather writer for complex surveys and the iPad with tables on for simpler sites. I have been known to put the iPad in the weather writer!

    No worries lol!
  11. Seconded, they are very good.
  12. Why not take the time to educate the client then and push the BS in front of them? After all its in their interest not to waste thousands planting trees which subsequently die from avoidable issues.

Hi mate, I use an Ipad2 for most things now, get Docs to go which will allow you to transfer documents between emails and your desktop pc. The only downside so far is the lack of flash player which can make online shopping a pain.
  18. I did the jerry can trick last week as well as filling the truck right yp
  19. I've bought lots of kit from there over the years, finding the loo in a giant warehouse full of tanks was a surreal experience!
  20. As Dent said, its mainly to do with the cab. Valtra / Valmet have a good system. Is it for a mulcher? If it is you'd want a tractor with a flat bottom / decent guarding anyway which would take you back to Valtra.
  21. You get collectors after this stuff, or maybe someone would want to read up before purchasing. Madness IMO!
  22. You can get spares for all bits of them.
  23. It's easy peasy, administered by the London Borough of Merton. Less than 5 employees is easy enough to do if your good with the paper work side of things. We got a consultant to do ours and it cost about 360.00 in their time and 200 to CHAS. I think it's pretty simple if you have a head for paperwork. Most local authorities in Wales ask for it now. It doesn't win you work but helps with H&S PQQ's.
