  1. Yep carbs all shiny and no decomp that I know of. Sent from my GT-I8190N using Arbtalk mobile app
  2. I could sort you a bit of 12x3 Holm oak as a trial, but it's not fully seasoned. Sent from my GT-I8190N using Arbtalk mobile app
  3. Thanks, I have the Ipl and manual already, I assumed you were talking of some pressure testing gizmo or something. All parts were ordered against the part numbers so should be good. I really need one of these saws up and running for the smaller milling jobs, spuds too busy to help, and I was recommended a local saw doctor called mark Taylor, I going to take one with little compression to him tomorrow and see how he gets on. The one I'm playing with at the moment has loads of compression. Have been putting a little fuel in the carb and can get it to fire but not run. Determined to fix this one myself. And if I can get one running elsewhere it takes the pressure off. One more things been puzzling me. This saw had a faulty on/off switch so I replaced it. But how do you know which way is on or off? Which way should switch be fitted? It seems to have a spark regardless of switch position, so what does the switch actually do. I kinda assume something else is up as surely it should kill the spark. I also agree that choke markings are incorrect, but when I bought the saw it had already been made clear with a sharpie. Thanks again. James Sent from my GT-I8190N using Arbtalk mobile app
  4. Edit, struggling to remove brass screw. Must try harder I think. Sent from my GT-I8190N using Arbtalk mobile app
  5. Thanks wiseco, I cleaned carb with spray, but think I did a good job. Filler cap is new as old one was iffy. No idea what an Ipl is. Think I will strip down and start again. Thanks James Sent from my GT-I8190N using Arbtalk mobile app
  6. OK, more help needed please if any one has time. Stripped one saw carb kit, plug, filters etc. Won't run. Will fire but won't run. Left it a week as no time to finish. Went back to it today and won't pull over. Plug out and chamber is full of fuel. Spraying out the muffler and all sorts. I assume I fitted carb kit badly/problem with needle valve, but all looks OK. There's loads of compression. What have I done wrong and what should I do to rectify.? Thanks a lot in advance. James Sent from my GT-I8190N using Arbtalk mobile app
  7. So I went to see the yew today, she's a nice lady with little expectation of value. The tree however is not so nice, what appears to her as large butt's will more than likely fall apart when cut. It has some value, I advised her it would be worth £150-400 depending what it looks like when felled. I will go back in a couple of weeks to make an offer when down. 8. Sanding end grain is always more difficult than long g rain. Best advice I have is use a belt sander for the worst if the marks then move on to a random orbit sander, starting at about 80grit and going up in 40s/60s till you get to around 320 grit. It's going to take a while but it seems you have some time on your hands so enjoy Sent from my GT-I8190N using Arbtalk mobile app
  9. If it's good enough to buy, the end product will be whatever I'm inspired to make when it's dry. Always fancied making some yew garden furniture though. Sent from my GT-I8190N using Arbtalk mobile app
  10. It has value as a raw material. I was asked if I wanted to put an offer in on a felled yew, so all I will be doing is driving there with trailer and dropping it In. I think I will offer £3 hoppus, seems fair to me? Sent from my GT-I8190N using Arbtalk mobile app
  11. So what do people think us a fair price for a yew log.? £3.50 a hoppus or more. I know it depends on quality but let's assume it's better than it looks. Sent from my GT-I8190N using Arbtalk mobile app
  12. Mill them as soon as you can mate. That's what I'd do anyhow. Sent from my GT-I8190N using Arbtalk mobile app
  13. Be interested to know where she's seen any yew saw logs advertised, don't recall seeing any on wood lots lately. Starting to think it might be a waste of my time driving over there if she's thinking she can retire off a semi reasonable multi stemmed yew. Doubt she will like my offer much. Will let you know how I get on. Sent from my GT-I8190N using Arbtalk mobile app
  14. Think I'm offering for a felled stick only. That's how she explained it to me assuming it's the same lady. Sent from my GT-I8190N using Arbtalk mobile app
  15. Think the same woman called me, just up the road for me, I'm going to look tomorrow. Sent from my GT-I8190N using Arbtalk mobile app
  16. The way I see it you have two options, firstly sand and refinish, or leave it to weather. They say with oak that if you don't want to maintain a finish, then you shouldn't put anything on. My money would be sand and refinish. Try to get a decent finish built up on it before next winter. I would use Osmo uv protection oil, making sure I had at least 5 coats on the horizontal surfaces. Expect to have to recoat it every year though. You could also think about covering through the worst months to help protect it.
  17. The knot in the handle was weak but there isn't any knots in the head.
  18. Nice work mate.
  19. A shim is a random thickness of material used to either fill a gap or prop something up. In this instance a shim is a piece of wood taped to your pencil. This will raise the pencil off the bench when held horizontally, allowing you to mark a level line. Eg. On the second face, If 18mm boards are needed then put a shim roughly 14mm under pencil this should make it about 18mm to the lead. As Alec says, if this setup is used everytime, all boards will be marked out at the same thickness.
  20. I'd also be interested depending on location. James
  21. I have a twin and single powerhead set up. The twin is super fast, but has the disadvantage of needing two operators. So if the single setup is big enough it usually wins out. Just bought a Lucas on the weekend so big slabs in the future will be cut with that.
  22. Hope it's good for you Alec, beginning to think I should of kept that one for my self. Still you are a lot closer.
  23. I'm in bucks and after some oak saw logs. Would have to be roadside as I don't fell, PM me if your interested. Gladly come and have a look at some point to assess value. James
  24. If slack bladder isn't having them all, I'll take some. Thanks James
