  1. Nepia, What sort of tools you have available? Slabs as that width are good for coffee tables. Minimal tools required. Belt sander, circular saw. Drill.
  2. Had a walnut tree in his garden all that time and never attempted to get a crop from it to realise it isn't a walnut. Funny old world these days.
  3. We bent a ram on a splitter . Had it straightened, bent almost immediately on re installation. Not saying it would Definately happen to yours but it did to ours.
  4. Only posted it last Saturday I think so not yet no. As Daniel says it's not clear as it's all one person's perception of what looks like what. I understand reclassification is an arse. Been there before. Motor homes don't need graphics. Plenty of coach built ones for sale in the UK look like panel vans with windows and no graphics so the dvla possibly need to treat everybody with the same rules. The hi viz is the let down on mine I know. I can buy graphics for £30 and stick them on and remove them when it's changed but I shouldn't have to as manufacturers don't have to. Some choose too. Some don't. I also like the way mine looks as I can stay in it anywhere and no one bat's an eye. Another thing the dvla don't want. My point is though that the day van part of the argument is not a legal thing and doesn't include the dvla. It's up to the insurers what they consider a day van. I can't find any insurer that states that a day van must look like a camper in traffic.
  5. There is loads of things you can make by hand, with the right skills anything in fact. What logs have you milled and what sort of size and I can suggest a couple of achievable beginners project with some basic tool investment.
  6. What part am I not taking your word for. Already filled that form out once.Thats a checklist for v5 change not what qualifies a day van. It Also states in bold to use the checklist to show which of the external features your van has. Implying to me that you dont need them all. I don't really expect the v5 to be changed but am very happy that it complies as a day van.
  7. No experience of shou sugi but I dont see why not
  8. Nice job, Scots pine mills and treats well if you have a use for it.
  9. I would of paid you some beer tokens to come mill it.
  10. Drum guy has some skills.
  11. Where is the beech?
  12. Gives me more options for insurance(cheaper) and generally better to be registered to be what it is. Standard not class 7 mot. Looks better when I sell it. If I don't try to change it my interpretation is I'm not following the law. If they tell me I can't then. no bother. Quite often camper vans are punished anyway in things like parking etc.
  13. Exactly that. I could do without a toilet but my teenage daughter. Not so much. Always nice after a night on the beer too. Looks like an interesting layout.
  14. Could be Worth a few beer tokens. Not much, will go look. Never milled or worked it. That's why I'm interested in trying,
  15. It's a day van at the least.
  16. According to your link then my van qualifies easily as a day van. The only thing that stops it looking like a camper is the high viz which is colour which is not restricted on vehicles. It could easily be removed if it Comes to it but I want to push it a bit with it on. All other features are there
  17. My insurance company knows what the van is. What's in it. How is registered etc. They told me the policy I have covers it. Got an email from them stating that somewhere. It's a policy that was set up for self builds that didn't have the v5 changed Day van is not a legal term here. Its an American thing. So there is no qualification for it except to my knowledge having done of the features of a camper but not all. Will see what the v5 change comes up with. Mine does look like a motor home from the outside for all of the things it needs to qualify except for motor home style graphics which are optional. The bed is there. The table is fixed but movable. The dvla say them selves that if a van has all the features of a camper van, stated by them, then it is a legal requirement to have it reclassified on the v5c. I'm pretty sure my van passes all the requirements so if they don't accept the application then I will push it as far as I can as its there rules that they advertise. As said the only one thing I don't have is campervan style graphics and they say themselves that they are optional.
  18. Not too fussed about the v5. Can insure it as a day van for 250. Will probably put it up for sale soon though so would be good to cross the ts.
  19. It's got a 1000w 240v immersion heater for hot water only, I run this through the invertor if the sun is out of I'm driving about. If I'm parked for a few days with little sun I'll use the diesel heater for hot water Space heating is all diesel. So if the space heating is on the hot water is there anyway.
  20. Bastard keeps following me around
  21. Weighs just over 3.1 tonne with tanks full.
  22. Strange coloured yellow squares are covering up words highway maintenance. They are magnetic. I've got the v5 application in at the moment to change to motor caravan. I had to cover the words up for this purpose. I wouldn't be surprised if they were to fall off once the application had been approved.
