  1. Hi, sure this has come up before but cannot find the thread or post. What do you recommend or use yourselves to seal the ends of milled timber to reduce the risk of splitting while drying? Do you apply this 'stuff' before or after cutting? I've looked up the recommended way to stack the cut boards and the use of battens/spacers but am open to any advice here too. Milled my first tree yesterday, a birch, no particular reason other than it being the first thing to be available. Can't believe I haven't got into this before! Don't want to think about how many tonnes of timber I've wasted/misused.... Time now to redress this. Cheers
  2. A yard near Frimley got cleaned out last night so keep your eyes & ears alert for chainsaws & hedge cutters 880, 650 x2, 660, 441 x2, 362 x3, 261 x2, 210t x8, 150t x1, HS81 x3
  3. Hi, what's the most useful bit of personal kit you've bought in the last few months, and why's it so good? Cheers
  4. 12 ton Electric VENOM Compact Log Splitter I am looking for something to use predominantly at home, needs to run quietly hence the choice of electronic. I've limited knowledge of splitters but this one seems to tick most boxes. Just looking for any opinions from users, build quality, reliability, easy operation, speed of ram etc etc. Thanks Adam
  5. As title, looking for freelancers who want a day or two here and there. All nice jobs, just want to get some more guys in the phone book for 'as and when' jobs, we're based in North Hampshire, near Farnham. 95% of the work is private domestic, we're an established company with a reasonable reputation (I hope!) [email protected] 07968770361 Thanks Adam
  6. Try here, there are loads of other suppliers though. Lifting Gear, Rigging Equipment & Height Safety An idea for a kit might include two or three 5t strops, a suitable diameter snatch block (dependant on diameter of the cable) and two or three shackles, the bow ones.
  7. Why have a lanyard at all? (can I ask?) I've not used one in 22 years and haven't yet dropped a saw. I'm not saying I'm good, maybe just lucky... My point is that after me, the most dangerous thing up the tree is the chainsaw, so if it all goes horribly wrong I'd rather part company.
  8. I use this combination, and personally I think it's great. I used Marlow Aeris previously and really liked that, only changed when I caught it with the saw..... Not too much bounce with Tachyon, and as mentioned, good self tending although you need about 10m hanging below for it to work well.
  9. Hi, no. I use these but with the Cool Talk throat mikes.Ebuyer Mobile

  11. Have you seen 'cool talk'? They're throat mikes.
  12. 'Google' pallet sheds, look at the images. There's some mega resourceful stuff on there.
  13. 5ten Guide Tennies, they're really nice for climbing, with happy feet. No protection though.
  14. Hi all, I'm sure that this has been addressed many times so I'm hoping for some good advice and knowledgeable direction. I don't 'do' logs and have NO intention of starting, but I do burn lots at home. I've hired different machines, recently a Bolik 100 US, I thought it was excellent. i, has anybody any experience of these ii, any others similar that would be good? I want relatively quiet ( electric), quick, adjustable return and 8tonne of push. Not too fussy then..... Thanks Adam
  15. I think that Mr Girdle has the right idea, the quick buck isn't a patch on a longer term relationship.
  16. 1: Probably a 16t as your single line capability is 8t. 2: try -http://www.safetyliftingear.com/categories/winching---4x4-off-road/snatch-blocks 3: I haven't got one to sell.
  17. http://cdn.toolstation.com/images/141020-UK/250/60863.jpg Try these, if the rabbit gets in you'll have to post a picture! You can choose then whether you relocate them to a remote location or send them on their way to the next life....
  18. ArbClimber magazine did a piece on this in an early issue. It compared numerous boots, taking a brand new pair and an old, used pair of each make, and then adding a chainsaw into the mix. Anything metal seemed to be a bonus.
  19. Hi, I'm after two 900x600 pieces of slate, around 20mm thick. I'm in Cardiff for the afternoon before heading back east. Anyone know a supplier around here? Thanks
  20. Thanks Mull, which model do you suggest? I was looking at an IM350. Any good?
  21. As title, which is the preferred gun for close board fencing? Thanks
  22. Find a mechanic with a round diagnostic plug and get it checked. Mine showed the injection light and struggled to start too. Turned out to be a faulty crankshaft sensor (circa £30), easy fix to do yourself too. Also check the torx bolts on the back of the diesel pump, they can loosen.
  23. Thanks to Kernowstu for his recommendation of Ian Hampshire. Ian, Gavin and their tee shear were on site for us today pollarding large willows. Amazing machine and top job done. Thanks
  24. Thanks David, I shall have a sniff tomorrow and report back. Hope you're well.
