  1. Zigzag is good Wolter, but if you break it, can you knock up another from the stuff lying around your vehicle/kit bag/end of another rope? And be back on the job in under 5 minutes??
  2. Friction hitches will never die! To useful, to versatile, and cheap!
  3. 020 bought new in '94, used nearly daily, still going strong. A little TLC when required, serviced and cleaned occasionally.
  4. Speed line and a bit of luck, straight down the drive to Vancouver Ave!
  5. Yeah, truly resourceful! And I bet most people have all that kit knocking about already.
  6. Check out the 'High Hedge' guidelines with your local authority, there may be some useful info there. Having said that (for your info), it's amazing how these people prioritize things. Parish councils included. Don't suppose your neighbor is on said council??
  7. I've never had a problem with a tool strop as I don't have one. having not dropped a saw in 18 years I'm pretty much set now although I have recently tried using one. It's back in the bag now.... I figure that after me, the most dangerous thing up the tree is my chainsaw so I'd rather we parted company if things go pearshaped... Having said this, I'll probably drop and trash a saw tomorrow!!
  8. Nice arrangement, can all be placed 'midline' too. Did you have the connector made up? Can't really make it out in the picture.
  9. Gotta go with my Silky.....
  10. I think James Bond used his shoe laces? Probably about 60 pence! Originally a couple of prusiks would have been all you'd have but now the options are a little better (pricier too though). That's for SRT access, SRTWP might be a little more involved I agree.
  11. if that's you in your picture there(?), you climb DDRT.
  12. You mentioned cutting prusiks? suggests your climbing rope passes through a friction hitch/prusik on your harness, then up to a high anchor/cambium saver and then back to a fixed point on your harness?? that'll be DDRT or doubled rope technique.
  13. If you're climbing DDRT the pulley set up works well. Setting your high anchor the same as an SRT rig, allows complete control from the ground if necessary. The pole may be good but its very limited imo.
  14. The majority of voters here never use SRT, what are the reasons if you don't mind me asking?? Thanks
  15. Good prices but all my gamma head torches have failed on the battery compartment lid. The retainer snaps leaving you needing either a rubber band or a new head torch..... Shame really.
  16. Sorry Tapio, auto correction doing its thing there...
  17. Tapoo, Liam;) I moved to food grade veg oil 14 years ago and have used it ever since. Gummed up two oil pumps in that time (£30 each +/-). Never knackered a bar, trashed a lawn with a spill or poisoned any other bugs (notwithstanding cutting down their habitat...). It's a worthwhile choice for me but everyone to their own.
  18. 'The book' is a bit fresh, what do you think of it?
  19. For towing, if you've got it you don't have to use it, but if you haven't......
  20. Disco. Check out the 'legal' capacities 3500kg v 1020kg or something like that......
  21. The unicender is a great tool, D Mc. Is it your choice for primary attachment when working?
  22. Just curious, but which and why?
  23. Should continue to be exempt I think(?). I know a couple of guys pulled over in their van with a load of chips at a police/dvla/ministry type road block vehicle check thing. They were threatened with prosecution for not having a waste license!! Stood their ground, nearly got knicked etc etc. Finally someone phoned someone and they were proved right.... Didn't even get an apology.
  24. I known this is going off subject, but are we as a trade not exempt from requiring a waste carrier license?
