  2. Hello twmarriot , do you think its mostly on the very wide cuts that they crack ?? as ive not used it yet for much big stuff apart from softer spalted beech , also do you think tooth angle could be the problem as i had problems with blade getting stuck in wide cuts and got my saw sharpeners to reduce angle of tooth ,,, since then it had the hydraulic motor replaced ,, was it you looking for a tom sawyer ??,, if so theres one on aggriaffaires in france,, in combined saw/ splitter section and westtec also have a big 150 forrester
  3. A few pic's of sawmill now that its goin a bit better,, I got dun over buying this as ive had to replace the main hydraulic motor and hydraulic pumps on engine pack ,, probs cost 2k replacing these and changing pipe so new stuff fitted ,, plus extra money getting a bigger oil tank due to oil heating which turned out to be main hyd motor ,, and thats before adding the bits i wanted,, Log on saw is approx 120 cm at widest part ,, short log due to weight , tractor picked it up but i couldnt steer it due to back wheels coming off ground ,, I have been lucky with cracked gullets till this log ,, it was newly made and tipped blade, im not sure if it has just been a bad blade,,

I started a shop on ebay about 7 years ago when there was money to be made on there, there was probs about six people on there then selling wood full time ,, looking on there now theres about 15 or 20 ,, I miss it as used to get rid of lots of small bits which i now BURN ,, But alot of hassle and when i finnished my shop a ouple of years ago my accountant said my costs worked out approx 24%,, i think Rob d has the best idea gettin someone else t list as it takes ages with my crap internet conection
  7. Hello,, had the same happen on a few tables,, did you use wood preserver on it ??? as a problem ive had in past has started around milldew spots

  9. Hello, ive maybe Got to much timber and im thinking of selling some by the wagon load as firewood in my area isnt high priced and ive got a lack of undercover storage,, Im based in the scottish borders , Carlisle 40 miles Edinburgh 40 miles ,, The wood ive got is from park land type trees so not the straitest pieces and ive got into the habit of cutting to length without a tape so not all the same length, The trees are very old and near end of life most are windblown or dead from disease,, Tree in pictures was windblown jan 2013 and i cut it up june 2013 and its still at tree as last picture,, I may have a customer for a load but is there anyone local interested and the big question ---- how much is seasoned beech worth
  10. Can anyone remember if the logosol bandsaw (the one that fits onto the m7 chainsaw mill )used to be sold as a chainsaw fitment or was that the log home moulder ,,

  14. Hello ,, been making another chain turner for sawmill as ive got quite few short big diamater logs mill ,, I was wondering what other peple prefer as i couldnt get on with my claw and now use it for clamping mainl
  15. Buying a second hand mill like a loglogic is a gamble ,, took me a longtime to realise it the blade speed wasnt fast enough as it was cutting ,, i think the problem was person before had put a lower lpm pump on power pack ,, not much help from main dealer at first but have been more helpfull since,, alsothe hydraulic pump and motor importer in this country are very very bad,, i needed a seal for a £800 hydraulic motor and they told me to get one local as there only 30 quid and not worth there time,,
  16. That is my next option unless somebody come's up with better idea,, mag drill and 30mm cutter
  17. Hello ,, has any one got a good answer to problem of water collecting on tractor belly plates and mixing with that drop of oil or diesel ,, and which ends up on the road looking like an oil spillage,, Theres very little oil on the belly plate ,, but water is contaminated when it drops off,, Is it any good using a spill kit pad ??,, will it only soak up the oil ?? Thanks in advance
  18. To me prices will have to come down as i think there is way to much wood available on the market due to people seeing big prices on ebay and having a go sawmilling with chainsaw mills ,, theres a limited market ,, People with kilns have a better chance of keeping price up but i find these days people are wanting all different sizes of timber and i have trouble finding space where i can keep timber that is kilned dry,, Last couple of years have seen 70 % of timber going into things like chopping boards , rusic shelves and fireplace mantes ,, once these trends change im not sure where things are going to go ,, Forgot to say i sell more ramdom pieces than big quantity's ,, nice figured timber big price ,, strait grained boring timber cheap price or cut as firewood,,
  19. Chris Sheppard,, Swailsey had his on eby about a year ago ,,
  20. Ive got to say that hydraulic saw does look good,, would be good to know what type/size of motor it is ,, Im sure it will need a big oil tank a hot hydraulic oil can kill a system
  21. Managed to find some specs for a hydraulic saw motor on the net for forestry harvester,, they run up to 10000 rpm ,, require 180 -200 litres a min dependent on sprocket size, and min operating pressure of 220 bar to 280 max the saw motor also seems to control the ram which moves saw through the log ,,I wouldnt like to buy one thats for sure ,,anybody got an idea of price ??? My big hydraulic power pack for my sawmill is a fordson major industrial engine ,, and the pump produces about 90 litres and about 100 bar ,, i think portability just went out the window as i think it would probs need a 80 hp engine to run a motor like that,,
  22. Big J ,, i looked into similar a few years ago,, problem was getting the speed rite,, i thnk i remember a chainsaw rpm is about 9000 and petrol engine about 2800 rpm ,, fast spinning hydraulic motor 4000rpm from what i remember ,, I did enquire about a dedicated slabber from swing mill dealer and was told tht a chainsaw mill was probs faster as the dedicated slabber didnt have enough rpm to match a chainsaw mill,, they may have changed that now,, The other problem i came across would be some way of attaching the chain drive sprocket in the system due to them having the 7 internal drive teeth that fit chainsaw clutch ,, I have since spotted 16 tooth sprockets (7 internal for chainsaw mounting ) in america for racing chainsaw which are about 3 1/2 inch in diamater and could be used to gear up the speed and also be used as mounting on a plate due to its large diamater,, but im not sure how they would hold up to continuos use
  23. Yes thats the peterson attachment i was thinking ,, Ive made tables in different ways as pictures ,, but i do like working on a big slab,, i think the americans could be rite in using 2 part epoxy type finnishes as this realy seals the wood,,
  24. You've got to be honest with your customer's,, ive talked a few out of it ,, they can move , even the morning sun shining on one end caused a little movement , a hump which i said i could level but the customer said it added more charm , had other orders from them since , There is a market for big slab tables and every piece of wood is different ,
